kari is pulling double duty. we want to look at weather. good morning, kari. >> good morning.t starts out with some clear skies over walnut creek, as we get started with some cool temperatures, some nice low 60s to start out the day. as we go into the rest of the morning, we'll see it getting a little bit warmer, reaching 77 degrees, but overall, we are in for a cooldown for parts of the bay area. still reaching 90 degrees in antioch today. 90 in clearlake and santa rosa up to 87 degrees, while san francisco stays in the 60s. as you get ready to head out on the roads this morning, a live look at the san mateo bridge, we're already seeing that westbound commute just rolling across the bridge this morning. it looks good there, but we've got several new issues popping up on the roads. we get a look at the overall view of our traffic maps, where we have some green sensors, but we also are starting to see more problems at the castro valley y eastbound, and we have a crash there at 238, so we'll be watching this, as we are seeing a lot more of those cars slowing down in that area. a

>> that's right, kari. we have this alert that came into our newsroom. san jose police and chp were both on the location at one point. this is a critical connector and this closure could last for hours. it's a short section, but critical. month ray is the biger roadway, 7th and monterey is the closer. there was a pursuit by chp. they had to pull off the pursuit because of speed and safety, but there was a crash reported by san jose pd, and it turns out to be the same vehicle. >>> just a few weeks after that mass shooting at the nearby garlic festival. bob redell joins us live outside the campus where students may be able to get help if they need it. >> reporter: the gilroy unified the district is crisis counselors, and the 134 other schools in the district, so basically for the first week of school, which starts today. the district wants to offer assistance to students who might have been at the festival, or who know people who were shot or hurt there. students might also feel anxious giving the site of the shooting is less than a mile away from the high

meteorologist kari hall is tracking that. so how soon can we expect the relief? >> it will take a couple of days before we catch a break from the humidity and the high heat. and we're looking live right now in san francisco. the only spot where we're able to catch some natural air-conditioning because of the fog that continues to roll across the bay. so we're seeing that right now. and also some hot temperatures already in the inland areas. take a look at livermore. this is the -- this is the current temperature. it is 86. and napa at 70. 83 now in ukiah. as we go through the rest of the day, our temperatures will jump up pretty quickly in the south bay we're in the low 90s and going to see more of that along with some humidity through tomorrow. so i'll have a look at that and more coming up in the full microclimate forecast. >> thank580 you, kari. >>> breaking news this morning, crash on 580 that is shutting down lanes. this is near highway 24. mike, what direction are we talking about? >> talking about westbound 580 so that is heading to the bay bridge. this is

it's only 11:00 a.m., and i'm trying to echo what kari was saying. the temperature has already hit 87. we expect the mercury to soar to upwards of 108 within the next few hours. that's why the weather service has issued a heat advisory for most of the bay area, remaining in effect until 8:00. that's a reminder to stay hydrated and stay cool. the city of brentwood has issued an advisory that they have two community centers open. and we ran into an elderly couple who couldn't emphasis enough the importance of air conditioning. one lady we were speaking with said, you know, i just can't take the heat, i get sick, ditia in the community center open in 8:00 to 5:00, and the brentwood senior it didsh the city will, of course, extend those hours in the demand is there. in the south bay, there's a number of cooling centers open throughout santa clara, of course all the -- but if you south bay, if you need a ride to get to any cooling centers, the value legitimate transportation authority is offering free rides to the cooling centers via the bus and light rai

kari hall is tracking a summer cooldown. >> it will be nice to get the cooldown throughout the weekend. we'll feel that heading into wednesday and thursday. we're starting that downward trend today as we see some mostly sunny skies. although we are getting high clouds moving by filtering the sunshine. and tropical moisture moves in. live look outside in oakland and if you're about to head out for lunch, we'll have temperatures there in the upper 60s at noontime. and staying partly to mostly cloudy throughout the afternoon as our temperatures reach the low 70s there. we'll see a high in the south bay reaching 84 degrees. and 89 in livermore. we're still feeling that warm weather in the tri-valley and up towards the delta. after a really hot weekend, this is a bit of a break. and then we head to the north bay where we still have 90s popping up on the map and napa will see a high of 82 and oakland will see a high of 72 and san francisco in the 60s. through the week we'll cool it off. so we'll get a look at those numbers and also what else is going on coming up in the full microclimate for

mike, you still have two slow drives. >> i do, kari.e're going to help some folks for the drive through oakland which is jammed up from 66 the overcrossing there past high street and the coliseum up to just about 29th where we have and continue to have that one vehicle in the middle of the roadway, 580 is clear. but big rigs they will not be helped by this, because you need special permission to allow west 580. the speeds look like they're improving from some of the approaching areas so they may be moving the vehicle as we speak, they may be reopening lanes. we'll continue to track that. as we look at our waze system, they've timed out the approach toward the bay bridge giving you three options, all between 23 and 26 minutes, so roughly the same. you notice that the purple route takes you 580 and it is the clearest. back out to the regular system, we're showing the rest of the maps for the bay. everything else looks clear but the second one we mentioned is slow north 101 coming up san martin so just about dunne where the crash was clear
