joining me now is "wall street journal" columnist and fox news contributor karl rove. ome, karl. so what a difference a couple of weeks make. at the end of of the republican convention, donald trump riding high, everybody saying, oh, he's got it, got it easy, going to glide to the presidency. not anymore. so what has happened and why has he run into so much trouble? >> well, first of all, he was facing a very unpopular opponent in the form of joe biden who was dispiriting democrats, particularly young hispanic and black democrats, and so his replacement by kamala harris with a well-staged rollout, she's had a couple of weeks of very good press has basically put this race a back together. the real clear politics average is 1.222 -- 11.2 -- 1.22% separates the two candidates, but there's also an outlier of a recent poll that has trump the up by 5. and if you take that one outlier out, the gap between the two of them is 0.8, less than 1%. in fact, we're likely to see her move into the lead here shortly. if you look at the real clear politics average of the last 10 polls in

let's bring in kellyanne conway and karl rove.i am struck by how much we're hearing about how freedom is being, you know, taken away and that people don't have freedom in america. and the biggest topic there is the abortion issue. that's what comes up the most that we saw in these videos, you know, different veiled references to it. what do you make of that, and how persuasive do you think it will be for voters in november? >> it's very persuasive in this hall whether there isn't a single swing or undecided voter. i think they run the risk that having a big theme like freedom and ignore what spom americans are telling pollsters what freedom means to them. sure, abortion's important to many people, pro-life and pro-choice, but they're saying you stripped me of my financial freedom. you are against school choice. you're against parents. these single moms in the inner cities of allowing our tax dollars to follow their children to a better school worthy of their humanity and dignity. they're all against that here. and so i think they'

this "new york times" siena college poll, we asked karl rove about this last hour, and it does seem,you just mentioned, bret, this is incredibly tight, but state to state, harris' team says they believe the sun belt states, some of these are in play for them. her leading five points in this poll over donald trump. he leads in georgia. she has a two-point advantage in north carolina. where obviously we are about to hear him speak. and of ada. it is so close and this polling, donald trump with a one point lead, bret. >> it is about expanding the map. i think arizona, watch this immigration issue, that's moving the needle obviously there. north carolina, they are talking military and foreign policy today. but there are other states the republicans feel they may even have a shot at. virginia is getting close. as this goes on, you are going to see the map change, but right now they are focused on about six states. harris has moved the needle from biden. >> john: when we talk about the consequences of foreign policy and the world we are going to live in, depending on who becomes president,

i talked to karl rove after and he said a lot will weigh in on how rfk is saying to his followers i wanto vote for him. vote for trump. if he says i am out, i want you to vote for trump and here is why, we disagree in the deficit and other things but for the most part donald trump will change things and anybody that thought when things change to support me go to it and he stays there with him. but he just as i'm out, thanks very much. i'm endorsing donald trump and he disappears, that is less of a chance of that 4% going his direction. but if you look at the nbc polls, and bc-pretty high with both parties but higher with republicans. the more they got a look at rfk the less they liked him and ever since kamala came out, it seems like kamala, kamala harris came out, it seems the only people he is retaining popularity with our republicans. and it stands to reason that is good news for trump. >> sandra: you asked trump about this and he reacted on your show this morning and said this. >> i have known him for a long time. as you know he's a little different kind of a guy. very smart guy and
