kasie, katy, i have to use good diction to distinguish between the two of you.s going to pivot on immigration this week. we were waiting for a big speech on thursday. now, not so much? no speech. what's going on? >> reporter: yeah, campaign source says that immigration speech has been postponed. unclear to when, unclear to why. we also know that his public events in las vegas on friday has been canceled. i'm not sure we can say that donald trump is pivoting on immigration yet. i think it is telling that he didn't outright deny the idea that he could be thinking about amnesty for undocumented workers here in america. neither did his campaign. but to say that donald trump is officially pivoting or moderating, i think that would be jumping the gun. after all, we are still unclear on where he stands with his muslim ban, whether it is still a muslim ban or if it is just a territory ban if he's moderating on that. i think at this point we got to chalk up this immigration policy to just one of the many issues that we just aren't very clear on when it comes to donald tr

joining me now is katy tur and kasie hunt. kasie, take us to what clinton is expected to do today and what does she mean by propagating her attacks on the so called alt-right? >> reporter: sure. you showed a little bit of the preview hillary clinton gave of the speech, casting trump as essentially embracing and becoming the leader of the so called alt-right movement starting from when he talked about president obama's birth certificates all the way to what he has been saying about muslims, mexicans and other groups. the idea to push back against this pivot where they are trying to show they are reaching out to african americans. they are reaching out to hispanic voters. they want to make sure it's not something they let sink in. you're not going to see her go so far as to call donald trump a racist. she always said his statements are racist but never quite gone that far the way trump actually labeled her as a bigot. i think it is also designed to bring this alt-right movement a little more out into the open, try to explain to

let's get right to kasie hunt, she's covering the clinton campaign in reno. . i know she's around. she's in the building. we expect her shortly. what are they telling you about what she's going to deliver this hour? >> reporter: we are expecting hillary clinton to take the stage here in reno any moment. we have some new information about what she's going to say. we have a couple excerpts from this speech. to touch on first what you were just talking about, the definition of the alt-right saying it's short for alternative right and "the wall street journal" describes it as a loosely organized movement mostly online that rejects mainstream conservatism, promotes nationalism and views immigration and multiculturalism as threats to white identity. so this is something that the clinton campaign wants americans to learn more about. it's been farther on the fringe, even house speaker paul ryan didn't know the right word for it talking about it in an interview in his primary. hillary clinton is also going to cast donald trump's campaign in light of this. she's going to say from the start d

bush had a foundation while his son was president. >> thank you, kasie hunt.ope you get time to enjoy yourself. trump used a lot of the descriptions, terms of the relationship, pay for play because of hillary clinton's time in that tenure and the do dmagss that went with clinton foundation. while he would like to be chicken little with the skies falling over this. is there anything there? this is not a revelation that people pay or donate money whether you're on the left or the right. >> a lot of this comes down to normal policy disagreements. how do you fund a charity or a campaign and we have seen debates about that throughout the political process. what we're e seeing where the legal arguments meet the political strategy is an attempt by donald trump and allies to try to get a whiff of criminality going. it was closed out as an investigation so the call for a new prosecutor, a new criminal inquiry, the idea to create smoke there. but legally if you break it down, there's not the kind of evidence here that suggests government corruption, misuse of government

thank you very much, kasie. let's bring in msnbc national correspondent, joy reid, following the so-called, alt-right movement. thanks for coming in today. >> thank you. >> you have people who would obviously say what is the alt-right, those who constantly peruse the blogs all of their lives. explain who these people are. >> essentially the alt-right consider themselves an alternative to traditional conservati conservatism, which they think is weak tea. that americans need to protect themselves against multioccur actual i remember and putting people at a disadvantage. it's interesting that the term "bigot" was written into donald trump's speech, a signal from the alt-right because they believe the real quote, unquote racism is racism against white americans. so mostly young, very tech-savvy, connected to things like gamer-gate, going after women. leslie jones a prime example. >> so what's the difference of the alt-right and white nationalists, white supremacists, kkk, are these all the same people, just with a d

kasie hunt is in kissimmee. how is trump affecting his chances at all of keeping that senate seat? >> well, marco rubio didn't have the luxury of being able to keep his head down because, of course, he ran in the presidential race saying that he wasn't all that interested of staying in the senate, how he didn't really like his job that much. once he lost the presidential primary to develop and came back and decided he did want to run for the seat and it looks like he'll run to the primary victory. in the fall, he'll face patrick murphy. although there's a primary on that side today as well, the challenge will be figuring out how to negotiate donald trump, especially in a state that is going to be a central if not the central battleground in the general election. and rubio, of course, is a potential test case for how you run a different kind of case, how you run for hispanic votes, for example. he's talked about quite a bit about a potential latino republican nominee for president down the line. clearly something that he still wants to do. but it's a delicate dance for marco rubio.

for more on all this, let's turn to kasie hunt. she's covering the clinton campaign from los angeles. i know she's out there doing a number of fundraisers, but what can you tell us about the ap report and what you're hearing from the clinton campaign. >> reporter: we haven't seen very much of hillary clinton the past couple days. she's been fundraising here in l.a. behind closed doors with quite a few celebrities. justin timberlake, she's in silicon valley today. so she herself has not answered any questions yet aside from a little bit of joking on "kimmel" about this foundation issue. they got the calendars that covered the first two years of hillary clinton's time as secretary of state. they went through and analyzed, okay, who did she meet with who wasn't part of the government. with the assumption that would be part of her regular duties and found that many of them had given donations to the clinton foundation. that you had to give money to get time with the secretary of state. now the clinton campaign says that's not the case.

that's where we find kasie hunt in denver. we see that clip.he clinton ad is going to be out there against donald trump. what is her speech expected to highlight? >> hi, thomas. it's all part of the same message. while on the one hand we're watching donald trump's campaign flail a bit. hillary clinton and her team has been pretty relentless in addition to putting that ad out. she's going to visit a company called knotty ties. it's a company that makes ties right here in the united states. that is designed to back up that ad that you just played. interesting, though, that ad is not currently airing in colorado. this is traditional ly a battleground state, but it's one where democrats feel more comfortable than recent yairs years. i talked to republicans who privately say they think donald trump is running a campaign that's all wrong for colorado. i think that the fact that democrats are willing to pull down their ads in this state really tells you something about the state of play here. i think you're right to highlight the rust belt. this ad sq
