we've got katy tur here tonight. we've got news from the virgin islands where these ad hoc evacuations continue to be under way seven days after hurricane irma hit. we've got news from florida today where a second nursing home was evacuated late today after eight elderly people died at one facility in hollywood, florida, despite the fact that this was literally across the street from a hospital that was open and didn't lose power during the storm. halfway around the world in belarus, russia is starting what's happened to be the largest military exercise slash demonstration since the cold war. there are significant fierce whether or not this thing is really just an exercise or whether this might be designed to mask the start of some other russian military operation, is which is what they did at the start of the ukraine invasion in 2014. so there's lots going on right now. lots worth keeping an eye on. a bunch of that we're going to be discussing this hour. but today just a ton of news broke on the trump russia investi

nbc correspondent katy tur lived out of a suitcase for a year and a half covering the trump campaign and she's got quite a story to tell. katy decided to write a book. it's entitled "unbelievable: my crazy story to the most unbelievable campaign in history." >> katy, this book is getting a lot of attention right now. we saw that clip of president trump calling you out on the campaign trail. you got to see a side of him and we wonder different behind the scenes with you. >> donald trump is who he is, both on stage and off. i think there are two aspects of the same personality. he could be quite aggressive and he could berate you off camera. i did an interview with him early on in july 2015, a long sit-down interview that was pretty contentious. when the cameras went off -- even contentious interviews i've done in the past, you shake hands and it's fine. he stood up and started screaming at me telling me that i could never be president. on the other hand, he would be very nice at times, too. there would be tense moments in the campaign but he would see me on his golf course in scotland

bus, since i'mle not katie to her, i wouldn't be recognized -- katie tur. completely forgiving tone about what trump did. what ill say, he will do would do, and i'm not always going to get it right. completely forgiving. nbc, the failing new york times, the post, all of the fake news, covering the mueller investigation, which must make it harder for you to cover a fairly paranoid white house at this point. are not organized enough to be operationally paranoid. i'm katy tur in new york in for chuck todd. welcome to "mtp daily" where we are keeping track of a monster hurricane just miles off the florida coast. here is the latest. after tearing through the caribbean the past few days hurricane irma is currently churning off the coast of cuba. wind speeds are still in the neighborhood of 150-mile-per-hour with gusts oon stronger. the southeastern bahamas received the bulk of the devastation today. the storm surge reached as high as 20 feet in some areas with up to a feet of rain. the combined death toll from irma currently stands at 17. looking forward, irma appears to have the south coast of florida directly in its path. we're going to get the latest on the track from nbc's al roker in just a moment. white house homeland security adviser tom bossert warned residents don't under estimate this storm. >> it's not only a dangerous storm, we've already seen loss of life. this storm has taken lives already. it's going to take more, unfortunately, if we're not prepared. so please take it serio
