he's outfront tonight and keaton beach, florida or so much of the destruction has happened, a place that looks so very different, 24 hours ago, derek, what are you seeing there tonight? >> yeah. erin, here in the big bend of florida, it took a direct hit by hurricane helene with stormy surge over 15 feet and winds of over 140 miles per hour leaving the destruction that you see behind me. but as the storm raised inland, it sold over an area well over 700 miles from where i stand right now, leaving its own set of dangerous in its wake, listen we narrowly a landslide it was i can't imagine what the room it's like a couple escapes, a landslide triggered by helene, shattered glass rocks, and mud covered their car going through black mountain, north carolina the state facing historic flooding, a once in a thousand-year rain event followed by landfalling hurricane this is one of the worst dorms in modern history for parts of western rule carolina. the priority now is saving lives asheville's ground soaked before helene approached two months worth of rainfall fell in just 24 hours, propane tanks

apalachicola, florida hours after hurricane helene made landfall as a category four storm of there keaton beach, derek, what's the latest where you are yeah. >> we are reporting live from this very tight-knit community here along the big bend of florida as coastline and what you're looking at behind me is what remains of keaton beach bombs, gasoline station that in just three days time was about to celebrate its five-year anniversary. you have been opened instead, it's left in ruins. there are bathtubs and roofs of homes from the homes that used to reside 500 yards over my right-hand shoulder as we maria, we got closer to the coastline, became increasingly more difficult for us to traverse the roads. there were down power lines, there was a strong sense and smell of gasoline as we approached the region. that's because of a gas tank that toppled over in the surge and broward county is actually responding to that particular incident over my left shoulder here. so it shows you that inner agency coordination of broward county that hours away from here as well. and i just want to show you the
