abc 7 news reporter kira klapper joins us live now. kira, what are the details? >> reporter: well, carolyn, as you mentioned, one person was injured. he suffered minor burns. he was treated and released right here at the scene. the captain of the san jose fire department tells me it could have been much worse. this man escaped with his family just seconds before their entire house went up in flames. a company just left after fencing off all the damage and some family members are here right now understandably too distraught to talk on camera. this was their family home, they grew up in this home. we also have video from other family members arriving to the home about an hour ago. i'm told that the man in the green shirt is the man who suffered those minor burns when he escaped the burning house. he was also too distraught to talk with us. he grew up in this home. his parents, who own it, are actually out of town on the east coast right now. he woke up to the smell of smoke. he discovered the fire was only burning in the garage. he got out with his fiancee and thei

good morning, kira. >> good morning to you, carolyn. the san jose fire chief tells me that the father of this family suffered minor burns in this fire. he was treated and released at the scene. but this morning he and his fiancee and his son are homeless after an early morning fire just tore through their home. we are actually just up the block because it is still an active scene. 911 dispatch had calls about the fire about 3:45 this morning. the family said they woke up to the smell of smoke. when the father went to find where the smoke was coming from, he found the garage completely engulfed in flames. again, the family of three was able to get out of the home safely just moments before the house just went up in flames. it took firefighters about an hour to put out the fire. they do say the home's fire alarms were working. they just had not been triggered yet because the fire had not spread to those parts of the house where the fire alarms were. the fire department expects to be horry a few more hours make sure all the hotspots are ou

kira klapper has the latest. >> kristen, at 9:00 this morning the two unions representing bart workers will announce the results of the strike authorization vote. it happened yesterday. thousands of employees came out to voice their opinion on whether or not their union leaders should call a strike. this is after both sides failed to reach an agreement in negotiation over pay and benefit. their contract expires this sunday june 30. bart and the employees are far apart on wages, pentagon, and medical gives. bart employees want bart to negotiate on safety and security issues. both sides agree that a strike would not be good for anyone. >> the vote today is to give authorization for an agreement. our members do not want to go on strike. >> we are looking at contingency land and looking at keeping the trains running with negotiation. we feel there is a deal to be had. >> if a strike is called it does not mean a strike is inevitable and the union leadership could call a strike if the district and the public is given notice but keep talking and avoid a strike if resolution is reached in time
