we'll check in with nbc bay area's kris sanchez and emma goss in just moments. first let's get to meteorologist kari hall with a look at where the rain is right now. >> we are looking at waves of rain coming through and when they arrive, they're producing heavy downpours. lately we've seen lightning strikes and we continue to monitor for that potential, seeing lightning off the coast that will be moving toward san francisco and daly city, getting there by the end of the hour. we are going to see that coming in off the shore and into parts of the bay area. we're also going to see waves of heavy rain continue through the east bay. it's been one after another of these rounds of rain coming through with some breaks in parts of the bay area. and we still have a potential of thunderstorms going into this evening before this storm system wraps up. but it's also a much colder storm and it has more energy that's forcing the air to rise a lot more quickly, creating all of that energy and the electricity, the lightning we're seeing right now, the reason we are seeing thund

in belmont, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> kris, thank you. >>> now let's look at the forecastunderstand it's a quick-moving storm? >>> yes, but we'll see it coming in waves so there's going to be some breaks in between and that initial line as it moved in really kicked up some high winds, also produced some lightning off the coast. we didn't see a lot of lightning strikes around the bay area. now we're seeing the rain returning to the north bay and look at all of the lightning. that storm really intensified as it moved off to the east. we're still seeing that lightning as it continues to make its way in upper elevations as it approaches the sierra. the number of lightning strikes, 115. also producing a lot of severe weather in the area as it moves over towards the sacramento valley. here at home we're seeing some ra gusty winds, and this is going to continue that threat of more downed trees as well as flooding impacts as we do continue to see this rain coming with nowhere for it to go, nowhere for it to drain, as we've gotten round after round of it. this will not be the end o

"today in the bay's" kris sanchez joining us live in gilroy. so, kris, what do people need to know?reporter: so this is bloomfield avenue, and you can see behind me it is flooded, and we've seen a lot of folks trying to take the risk and cross the roadway, but we know that only two feet of water is enough to wash away a small car. evacuation warnings expanded because of the overflow of the uvas reservoir and pacheco pass basin and now the areas between highway 25 and 152 and south of bloomfield avenue to the county line. if you are in the area and up need a place to go, san martin lions club is open as an emergency shelter on murphy road. lexington reservoir, one of the largest in the county, is expected to overflow today for the first time in years. the water district doesn't expect flooding as a result, and the reason is because the agency made room in vasona reservoir to capture lexington's overflow. don't attempt to cross standing water like that guy just did. it just takes two feet of water to wash away a small car, a truck or an suv. we know flooding is the issue here in santa

kris sanchez is live in san jose. kris, you're seeing downed trees, a big problem there. >> reporter: kari, we felt some of the gusty winds you were talking about this morning and, inct, it's really still right now. just a few minutes before our last live report we lost our light because a gust came from out of nowhere. this is one of the trees that has come down in san jose. it's not the biggest tree but is something that could create a real hazard for drivers in the roadways as they try to make their way around trees like this and we know trees like this, no matter how big, they can bring down power lines and we're already experiencing a lot of dark neighborhoods around the bay area. the biggest impact is in the south bay right now where 65,000 customers are without power. 15,000 customers without power on the peninsula, in the east bay, 6,500 customers and about 6,000 customers are in the dark in the north bay. earlier this morning, we were in belmont where there was a mobile home park that experienced a lot of flo

in redwood city, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> kris, thank you. >>> a man suspected of attempting to kill a santa clara county sheriff's deputy is behind bars. on saturday, a deputy stopped emanuel ramos in san jose for a traffic violation. they say he's camed on foot. investigators say the deputy chased him and then pulled -- ramos pulled out a gun threatening to shoot that deputy. after a struggle, the deputy said he was able to take the gun and the man got away from his car. detectives eventually found and arrested him on monday in campbell. he is facing multiple charges including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest. >>> the oakland zoo is reopening on friday, but starting today, tickets go on sale. the zoo closed following the new year's eve storm when a broken culvert washed away a giant section of the road leading to the zoo's entrance. they posted the video on social media. dates for the signature event will be extended until march 4th. >>> we had a cold start to the morning but nice and clear as we look at the bridge. kari has a look at the

nbc bay area's kris sanchez is tracking conditions in the north bay, one of the places getting hit the hardest. and we want to hear from meteorologist kari hall, who has been tracking this weather. >> we've been seeing the rain widespread and steady for much of the bay area. we've seen at times pockets of heavier rain picking up and moving into parts of the north bay from marin county right across the richmond-san rafael bridge. for the east bay, it is widespread with a few areas where you see the darker green, the heavier rain that's moving through. and we're definitely seeing that now over the santa cruz mountains, reaching more saratoga and eventually making it toward san jose, with lighter showers for morgan hill to gilroy. so we are still looking at waves of rain coming in, all of this moisture pushing across the bay area, and at times it does pick up quite a bit as it taps into that deep tropical moisture. another atmospheric river moving in with bay area rain and sierra snow that's really reducing the visibility in those areas. all of this drawn in by the center of this storm, t

cbs' kris van cleave has all the new information tonight from santa fe, new mexico. good evening, kris. >> reporter: norah, if convicted, baldwin could face up to five years in jail. the d.a. here plans to formally file those charges in the coming days. but you won't see baldwin in handcuffs. there won't be a perp walk. instead, he'll be receiving a court summons. what alec baldwin's lawyer calls a miscarriage of justice, santa fe's district attorney calls preventible and criminal. >> this was recklessness. this was negligent gis charge of a firearm because he pulled that trigger. >> reporter: baldwin was rehearsing a scene with cinematographer halyna hutchins and director joel souza when the gun went off on the set of the movie "rust," killing hutchins and wounding souza. this is what baldwin told detectives. investigators later found five live rounds on the set. in december 2021, baldwin told abc news he did not pull the trigger. >> someone is responsible for what happened and i can't say who that is, but it's not me. >> i think probably the most surprised person i

nbc bay area's kris sanchez is joining us live from the b.a.r.t. station. you're tracking a problem that originally started in oakland? >> reporter: yeah, well, service is slowly getting back to normal, but for hours, right during the morning commute, several lines were shut down altogether or had limited service. again, the repairs on a damaged part of roadway -- or railway is now fixed, and things are starting to get back to normal. the issue first came to light about a quarter to 6:00 this morning in oakland and persisted throughout the morning. about 8:20 this morning is when things were fixed. a lot of commuters had to delay travel, transfer to buses, drive themselves to work or just stay home. >> this is all due to some track that is damaged near 12th street in an underground section of railway. we've had to shut down all of the tracks in the area so that we can do these major repairs safely. >> reporter: now, as he said, they were major repairs, however we don't know what kind of repairs they were, except they were to the rail line and the power had
