. >> maurice: kris van cleave has the latest on the investigation tonight. kris?rter: maurice, we have learned that investigators have recovered the two black boxes, the data recorder and the voice recorder, from the airplane late today. those will be key in their ongoing investigation. those two people that remain in the hospital, we understand they are now described as having nonlife-threatening injuries. that's down from being transported as critically injured from the scene. so that's good improvement there. we are also getting our first clear look at what went wrong here. we've got two piece of video i want to show you. the first from tmz, where you see the plane coming in from behind. you will see the plane come in and what appears to be a hard landing, and then the right rear landing gear seems to collapse right before fire is seen and the plane then becomes a bit of a fireball. there is a second angle, as the plane is coming in, shot from the cockpit of another plane, where you see the airliner. it looks like a fairly standard approach, but instead of flar

i'm marcus washington and i'm kris sanchez. laura garcia is off this midday. we do begin with that breaking news in the east bay. and w we can now confirm that one person is dead following an officer involved shooting in concord. now, nbc bay area's bob redell live for us there from the scene. and, bob, i know you just spoke with the da's office. what are they saying? well, we also just got a new statement with concord police, who now tell us that an officer shot and killed a man who was stabbing a family member here at the family home on the drive not far from the intersection with willow pass road. you can see detectives here with concord police. they're out here as part of this investigation in that home in question is behind them, behind that white pickup truck. that's the home that they've been focusing on here in concord. the call came in around 140 this morning. police say when they arrived, they found an adult male who we believe was the son, using a knife and actively stabbing another man who we believe was his father. the son died here at the scene.

good morning to you, marcus and kris. i just spoke to a concord police officer within the past few minutes. he's here on the scene and he. as i kept asking him questions, he kept referring back to police headquarters. we are along willow pass road. you're looking down natoma drive, which is a residential neighborhood with small single story homes. this is on the edge of the open space that separates this neighborhood from highway four. so give you a sense of where we are here in concord. as you can see, there are several police officers out here. they are not letting anyone near the scene. when a stringer photographer responded after around 130 this morning, police actually put up more yellow crime scene tape to push that photographer away from the scene. the photographer responded to the scene because he heard on an officer on the police scanner say shots were fired, but we have not confirmed that yet. whether or not anyone firea gun out here or if anyone was hurt or killed, i did again ask this police officer if the cor

good morning to kris. we know that a federal judge will be holding a status hearing with both the prosecution and the defense, presumably to see where both sides are in preparation for their trial. it's not clear if former mayor, former oakland mayor sheng thao and the three other defendants will be in court, or if it'll just be their attorneys. last month, tao did appear in federal court to plead not guilty to charges of bribery, conspiracy and mail and wire fraud. prosecutors allege that tao and her partner, andre jones, used her influence as mayor in a bribery scheme with father and son city contractors david and andy duong. they run california waste solutions, which is oakland's main recycling service. in court records, prosecutors have revealed text messages exchanged between andy duong and a coconspirator weeks ahead of the november mayoral election. back in 2022. promising tao that they would by promising tao would buy 100 modular housing units from a company run by the wongs. guaranteed, andy duong

in gilroy, kris sanchez, nbc, bay area news. most definitely. thanks so much, chris. now we continue with our microclimate weather coverage for you. nbc bay area's bob redell. joining us now, he's along the alameda creek in niles canyon. this is where flooding warning has just expired there. so bob, talk to us about the conditions there. yeah. good morning, marcus and laura. you can see why the national weather service had a flood warning issued for alameda creek. that flood warning is supposed to expire at about 15 to 20 minutes ago. and that's because this creek captures so much of the runoff from the rains here in the east bay. it is about to crest roughly 11ft, which is just above the moderate flood stage of about 10.5ft. right now, according what i saw online, it's at about 10.5ft, and it appears to have risen in about the hour and a half that we've been out here. and i bring up those numbers, bececause the prediction earlier this morning is that this was going to crest around 9.5ft. so, you know, this type of thing is not an exact science, but there's definitely

laura kris, thank you very much. kari.l, this morning many across the bay area still cleaning up after this week's storm caused landslides and downed trees. two people, sadly, we killed in the north bay today in the bay's. bob redell joins us live. and, bob, first responders are really playing a role in trying to keep people safe. and there was a third person who could have easily not made it through this week's storms, but thankfully she did survive. good morning to you there, laura and chris. an elderly woman, she was driving her vehicle in marin county. she says her car hit a puddle. she lost control and she slid into a creek where the water was very deep. this is body cam video of a marin county sheriff's deputy breaking the window into her car. you can see that her most of her car was submerged in that creek. fortunately, the woman was able to keep her head above water long enough for that deputy to pull her out and get her back to dry land and safety. now, she was lucky. as you mentioned, there were two men who were

cbs' kris van cleave has the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: crews began lifting pieces of the american airlines regional jet that crashed into the potomac river after the midair collision. among them the midsection of the plane'smaled and upside down fuselage, one of the plane's engines, and a wing as efforts continue to recover all 67 crash victims. >> we have psitively identified 55 sets of remains. during recovery and salvage operations today, additional human remains were located. >> reporter: ntsb investigators have accessed the plane's cockpit data recorder, which shows the airliner was flying at about 325 feet around the time of the collision. deputy director of army aviation, colonel mike ott. is there any reason why army helicopters would be flying above that 200-foot line, as it appears in this case? >> it's important for us to not speculate because there are -- there are all kinds of reasons that you could deviate from an altitude. you know, something as simple as a flock of birds is in front of you, or you may deviate if you see something that's an obstacle or

and i'm kris sanchez. i'm in for marcus washington. we begin with that microclimate weather alert because as we mentioned, there is more rain rolling in this morning, even as the soil in some neighborhoods is completely saturated already. tuesday's storm triggered a mudslide which slammed into one north bay home that is now red tagged. this is in santa rosa's deer trail neighborhood, which is under evacuation warnings now. we spoke with the owner of that red tagged home, and he said his wife was at home when she called him at work to say she was stuck. it was difficult to understand what she was saying and she was obviously panicking. she didn't know if she could get out and but. it was just so scary. i mean, you can hear how scary in his voice, he says. first responders rescued both his wife and his daughter. they are both okay, but the home is going to have to be torn down and listen to this. he said this home is a rebuild from the home that they lost in the 2017 fire storm. meteorologist kari hall is keeping tabs on the latest condi

cbs' kris van cleave is there and reports on the probe. >> reporter: dramatic video of a learjet as it at the scottsdale arizona airport monday afternoon, shortly after touching down it appears the left main landing gear collapse, sending the plane veering off the runway, crashing right into a parked gulfstream 200. >> and we just had an emergency. >> reporter: firefighters were on scene within a minute. >> we have one fatality still in one of the planes. they were dead on arrival. >> reporter: in addition to the one person killed, at least three others were injured. two were rushed to local trauma centers in critical condition, the other transported with nonlife threatening injuries. a fifth person was treated at the scene. >> our thoughts and prayers for the individuals on the aircraft. it's certainly a tragedy that occurred. >> reporter: the plane, built in 1989, was coming from austin, texas. preliminary flight data shows its last reported speed at around 63 miles an hour as it veered off the runway. the leer 35a is owned by motley crue lead singer vince neil. he was not on board a

cbs' kris van cleave has more on the search for clues. >> reporter: crews began lifting pieces of theairlines regional jet that crashed into the potomac river after wednesday's mid-air collision. among them, the midsection of the plane's mangled and upside down fuselage. one of the plane's engines and a wing, as efforts to continue to recover all 67 crash victims. >> we are positively identified 55 sets of remains. during recovery and salvage operations today, additional human remains were located. >> reporter: ntsb investigators have accessed the plane's cockpit data recorder which shows the airline was flying about 325 feet around the time of the collision. deputy director of army aviation colonel mark ott. is there any reason why army helicopters would be flying above that 200--foot line as it appears in this case? >> it's important for us to not speculate because there are all kinds of reasons that you could deviate from an altitude. you know, if as simple as a flock of birds is in front of you, or you may deviate if you see something that's an obstacle. the pilots to climb. what'

i'm kris sanchez, i'm in for laura garcia, and i'm marcus washington. time to get you started with this new work week coming off of a busy weekend across the bay area. kari hall tracking what we all can expect out there. kari walking out the door today, i was like, oh, it's not too bad. it's not too cold out there. and we're starting out with a lot of clouds and even some patchy fog. as we go into the afternoon, it becomes mostly sunny and we will have some gradually warming temperatures, but then midweek, a slight chance of showers coming in. after that, we'll see temperatures warming up and we'll be headed toward a spring like weekend. but as we are feeling around the bay area, a wide range in temperatures really just depending on where you are, a lot of upper 40s and low 50s, but there are some cold spots, like danville starting out at 39 degrees compared that to the 52 in hayward and 47 that we're seeing in san jose. but we'll close that gap, and we'll all have temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s for later on this afternoon, as we get a lot of

today in the bay's kris sanchez. following that story for us. and kris, she's now being, you know, been experiencing what? nearly 16 months of heartache here. yes. so alona hill is one of the young people who was kidnaped by hamas on october 7th of 2023, and his mother knows exactly how it happened because it was caught in horrifying detail on camera. the kidnaping we have, the kidnaping video where hamas took the, you know, the, you know, took the video. so we can see how this happened. the video of alana hill being dragged away by hamas is hard to watch, but his mother does not want people to forget how he and the other hostages were kidnaped from the nova music festival on october 7th of 2023. she also wants the wod to see her son, as he lived up to that point playing music which his mother says guides his life. and here, smiling, surrounded by his family, including his mother, who grew up in berkeley. israel and hamas reached a ceasefire agreement just three weeks ago, allowing for the release of women and children, injured hostages and host

kris sanchez. she's in gilroy, where the uvas creek has flooded. walloped. the rain has stopped now. but look at the impact of all of the rain that we've gotten since the overnight hours. this is miller avenue, which is closed because the uvas creek is flooding right over it. now, although this is not the highest that you can get, people still showed up to take in the spectacle, including some people who have the day off. so you're not working today? no, no. why not? because there's a lot of rain. we can we can work in during the rain. there was flooding elsewhere in gilroy as well, where some drivers showed us exactly what not to do. the chp reminds us we can lose control in just two inches of water. and if water gets in your tailpipe, your vehicle can stall and you can be in a dangerous situation in other areas. we also saw good samaritans trying to help clear storm d drains to let that water dissipate. now, chp was out since last night when the rain started pulling along the freeways and the wind made for some very low visibility. if you can wor

and kris, it really could give the mayor some great power. right.nd that's one of the big talking points. san francisco, with all of its beauty and charm, as we know, also known for fentanyl and the havoc that it's created on the streets. san francisco mayor daniel lurie says thatt decring a state of emergency is the fastest way to change that. so today, san francisco supervisors will hear the first reading of that ordinance, which would free up resources by giving the mayor more power in the city's budget process, as related to what the mayor calls core initiatives. so as it's written in regard to those core initiatives, the ordinance would waive the bid process. grant department heads more deciding power if the board does not act within 45 days, and removes the board altogether from the lease approval process. if it's related to those core initiatives, the proposed ordinance would allow the mayor six months to solicit donations and gifts from private entities and organizations, and then the power to accept those. it would also allow the controller
