"today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us live from cupertino.hat do investigators know at this hour? >> reporter: they know what the victim told them. that was enough to send out a campus-wide alert to other students last night telling them that one of their classmates had been groped and almost sexually assaulted here on campus. the college sent out a notice to their students last night after a female student reported to police that a man grabbed her and shoved her against the wall, attempting to kiss her and touch her. she told police she punched the man and was able to get away. this was on the south side of campus last night, before 11:00 near the planetarium. the suspect fled to the north part of the campus, that would be the campus center. the victim told police the suspect told her that his name was alexander. she described him as either latino for middle eastern, about 5'5" tall with short brown hair, bushy eyebrows and an unshaven face but perhaps most notewory the victim had a cut to his lip and a strong body odor. while the notice is

kris sanchez, nbc bay area news. >> how can you deny fido there.tarting today, san jose finally taking the step of banning styrofoam across the city. the ban will affect about 500 businesses including markets, food trucks and street vendors. it puts san jose in line with most cities where the ban is already in place. the plastic bag ban takes effect today in martinez. the city ban is similar to california's upcoming ban set to take effect this summer. opponents of the ban say they've submitted nearly a million signatures in an effort to overturn it. the signatures were sent to the secretary of state's off o to be verified. if enough signatures are valid, it could be suspended and a new measure put on the 2016 ballot. something probably just to get used to in our state. >> it's 6:56. we'll have a final check of the top stories. s.w.a.t. team is involved in the hunt for a suspect, and the surrounding neighborhood is on lockdown. it's not clear if the suspect was hit. >> in the java sea there's been wind and heavy currents that keep moving plane debri

let go to kris sanchez live in the newsroom. good morning, chris. >> this is a quickly developing story and right now fren as t s thises that according to the bbc and the nbc news crew is trying to independently confirm that report. we can confirm that the youngest of the three suspects has turned himself in. these are the money at the center of the manhunt. french police say they are two brothers. police say they are extremely dangerous and heavily armed. police issued the photos appealing to the french people to help them track down these men. and there have been sightings there, including one that they were seen on a highway in northeastern france, which is in the area where the gas station was robbed. the manager of the gas station say the two robbers match the description of the other and they were armed with launch grenade launchers and they were driving the same kind of car as the killers from the attack. they do have passports and may try tack to that's a big problem. >> our french media report one of 1 of the 2 brothers

"today in the bay's" kris sanchez is live to explain the big deal that's being done and what it will eventually accomplish. good morning, kris. >> reporter: hi there, laura. you've heard that saying it always gets worse before it gets better. that's probably how it will feel for the folks who live around this intersection which is a bit of a distance from the intersection, lundy and sierra. highly residential, lots of folks who live here and this is just day one of a nine-month closure, they'll learn that reroute like the back of their hands i'm sure very soon. some parts of the bay area you will be able to see b.a.r.t. trains running. because of that, driver also have to reroute around this area to where the new temporary vta bus stop will be, that impacts bus line 77. as you can see in the rendering from the valley transportation authority along this part of the teb mile extension the tracks will run far beneath the ground so they can keep b.a.r.t. traffic separate from drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, more than a mere dig. also rerouting major utilities and restoring the roadway

. >> on that note "today in the bay's" kris sanchez joining us with the focus that the measles outbreak is putting parents on, kris to say no to the xzéwvacci. >> the pressure is on the parents who do say no to the vaccine. there are three bay area counties with measles cases, santa clara, almeida and san mateo county and this is considered one of the worst measles outbreaks in california in 15 years. most of the people who got the virus were either not vaccinated or undervaccinated. the measles outbreak that started at disneyland is prompting drastic measures by officials in orange county where disneyland is. they are banning 20 unvaccinated students from a high school there for 21 days, after a student with measles showed up on campus there earlier this month. 21 days being the incubation period for that airborne virus. seems drastic and probably going to perk up the ears of many bay area parents, but consider the fact that people can catch the virus from just being in a room where someone has been, who had the measles two hours before. the virus can live on cold, dry surfaces. expert
