ktvu's cristina rendon is live. you talked with one man who wrestled the knife away from the suspect? >> reporter: yeah. that's right. actually we were tipped off about what happened by customers who were crediting them for their brave actions. the men likely prevented a violent situation from unfolding. >> it was a huge knife. >> reporter: customers had their peaceful meals interrupted last night. >> i hear commotion and someone screamed get him. the 26-year-old was intoxicated while wielding a large knife. he was reportedly upset and did not want to leave because he thought someone stole his cell phone. they started wring with him. >> -- wrestling with him. they took the knife away. >> twisting his wrists till i felt a pop and i was able to dislodge the knife. >> reporter: they helped out by restraining his feet with a felt and his hands with handcuffs till police arrived. he says the man attacked officers and bit one of them on the leg but he credits them for stopping violence. >> no doubt. anybody warmed a knife

ktvu atara moriarty was near the fire -- ktvu's tara moriarty was near the fire lines and reports on the efforts today. >> most of our fire activity is in this division. >> reporter: fire crews are throwing most of their resources to the north. the enormity of the destruction is clear. black trees and brush dot the smoky landscape. >> it's been really challenging for us to get in there and make access with our dozers, our hand crews. it's kind of like connecting the dots. >> reporter: so far 4300 acres have charred. 380 homes are threatened. hundreds of people have been evacuated. >> it's devastating. it's the first time i heard it was on fire and it was devastating to see everything just -- you know, you leave in the morning to go to work and you come back and it's all gone. it's all gone. >> reporter: calfire shared some interest status ticks. they -- statistics. they say from january through the end of june, on average we'll see about 1800 wildfires. so far this year we've seen more than 2700. that's 900 more wife wildfires. a 50% increase. >> all of the elements are lining up tha

ktvu brian flores is joining us live now.you have new police audio describing that attack. >> reporter: we do, dave. good morning. we know that fight happened about an hour or two after the giants-a's game here. we understand the fight started out of some type of argument against a group of people. as you mentioned one woman was knocked unconscious as a result of the melee. what we know the fight started at 5:50 p.m.. outside of at & t park. san francisco police say two men got into an argument with a man and woman. we don't know what they were arguing about but one of the men punched another man in the face. he ended up having chipped teeth. he was treated at the scene. but a woman that was believed to be a companion was punched in the face and knocked unconscious after she tried to break up the fight. she was taken to sf general for serious injuries. we don't have an update on her condition. but listen as police describe the scene. >> i have a female about 30 years old that is unconscious and hasn't regained consciousness.
