today, latin america is democratic. virtually all the people here have gone from living under a dictatorship to democracy. we have seen historic, peaceful transfers of power. the work of perfecting ever democracies is never done. this is outstanding progress that has been made here in the americas. today, latin america is growing. they made a tough but necessary reforms. they have handled the economic downturn better than other regions. tens of millions of people have been lifted from extreme poverty. a new middle-class is demanding more of themselves and more from their government. latin america is coming together to address shared challenges. when a coup in honduras threatened a democratic process, the nations of the hemisphere in felt the democratic charge, helping to lay this foundation for a return to the pool of law. contributions of latin american countries have been critical in haiti as well as latin america diplomacy in the elections in haiti. that america is contributing to global prosperity in the security. l

the combined economies of latin america grew 6% last year. this, coupled with policies, led for this to be called the start of a latin-america decade. this is good news for the people of latin america as well as for the united states. taken as a whole, the latin american economy is nearly three times the size of india or russia and not far behind china and japan. latin america has a huge advantage that will serve it well in the coming decades -- a young population. if the countries of the region succeed in delivering education for their young people, they will have a significant aged four years to come over other major economies that are starting to feel the strain of an aging population. the size of the latin america economy and its young demographics are of great importance to the united states. our economy is tied much more closely to the economies of our neighbors than to those across the ocean. 43% of all of our exports stay in the western hemisphere. we export more than three times as much to latin america than we do to china. i want to

anybody that wants to participate and celebrate the latin flavors, the authentic latin flavors. as a community-based restaurant, it is in our interest to be woven and to interact with the community. we work in los angeles and we have other locations with community-based opportunities and organizations we participate in festivals. we donate money to local charities. we work with nonprofit organizations that help disabled people gain an avenue to employment. we do a lot of community. based changes because by being an integral part of the community, we know we are always going to be successful. we're bringing to the district a brand-new location in a place that's currently closed and by the way, there are, i think, something like 20 vacant properties obmission currently. we're bringing 60 to 70 new jobs and many of those going to those with less skills. we want to be a good neighbor. we have instructed everybody that works for us, employees, architects, consultants to try to comply with every single requireme requirement. that we may be have to abide by. and to try to work with the
