good morning, laura. the goal for the second harvest food bank for the number of frozen turkeys they wanted to collect is 11,500. doesn't sound like a lot. apparently it is because they're still short of that goal by a thousand. now, the situation is much better than last week when the second harvest food bank had less than 8,000 turkeys donated, now they're just over 10,500, but still shy of the goal of 11,500. second harvest serves about a quarter million people in both santa clara county and san mateo county. that's almost 50% more people than it did four years ago before the economy tanked. and what's frightening is that this food used to just supplement the meals of those in need. it used to be something in addition to. now it's all they've got. it's their primary source. you can still help out by dropping off frozen birds to the second harvest collection centers. they have this one here in san jose. they've got another one up the peninsula in san carlos. of course, cash is king. that also goes a lon

good morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura.ember the debt super committee was supposed to come up with a deal after they couldn't come up with one last summer. guess what? they're stuck again. no compromise but no stalemate either. they're still working on this with a deadline of one week away to come up with something congress can vote on, trying to find $1.2 trillion in budget cuts. the arguments are essentially what we saw last spring and summer. democrats want to see more money coming into the government to pay for what we're spending. republicans say that's a code word for higher taxes. they want to lower tax rates and lower spending, what we're putting out by cutting into medicare and medicaid, two popular programs, but the biggest growing parts of our budget. that's where they are right now. the committee itself hasn't met in a couple weeks, but lots of slids and democrat and republican leaders meeting as well. republican leadership on the house side says, look, if they come up with something that works for both sides, w

laura and scott, back do you. >> thank you very much. happy thanksgiving to you. >> just in time for thanksgiving. the ultimate holiday thanksgiving after a rise in crime. many of the 66 san jose police officers laid off back in june have now offered their jobs back. some of the hires were made possible because of officers retiring. >> we've been able to offer jobs to 50 of them. not all of them have accepted. the number waiting to be re reinstated is down to 15 oar 16. >> 28 officers offered their jobs back said no. many of them had found new jobs in other departments or said they feared being laid off again next year. >>> the gavilon men's college basketball team hit the court for the first time since a teammate died. they are also without devonte johnson and billy herd. both were in the same car with gaines when they got into an accident. johnson watched the game from the bench. it's a great challenge for the team. >> i can take them to help them move on. and those guys did that today. >> the chp will continue to investigate the crash

i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm jon kelley. that's a stark difference, christina, from what we saw on that video. >> you saw damian out there. sometimes when you other out there in, fog swirls around, doesn't stay stationary. we have winds helping them mix out all the load cloud cover. starting to improve in places like livermore where you can actually see for ten miles. the places not getting wind yet, for instance, the san jose hills where damian is, less than quarter mile of visibility. we'll see major changes as we head through this morning together. so the course of the next three orr four hours, winds pick up. they're going to be down right gusty later on. we'll talk about that first. >> talking about it swirling around, lower peninsula, lower bayshore. that's where we'll see two accidents. one for southbound 101 at whipple. the off-ramp might be affected like this. lanes sound like they're open northbound at woodside. this might involve a car into a pole. no major injuries reported. i'll give you that update. slick roads
