its number one priority is to have 1000 police officers on staff and hire back fire chief laurent armstrong, oakland city administrator, spoke over the weekend saying he and his department accept full responsibility. quite frankly, we just missed it and so we failed in that in that in that space. and so there really isn't an excuse. all i can say is that we'll certainly look look at this as an opportunity to improve, to move forward in an attempt to move forward. mayor shengtao recently announced six chp officers and one sergeant will help patrol the streets of oakland. the governor's office also separately awarded oakland more than $1 million to install 300 cameras citywide. an attorney from the naacp says the request for proposal for the state grant would have allowed major cities to receive up to $15 million and he believes oakland would have qualified for that. and the failure to apply for the grant demands a thorough investigation by the city auditor, an entity that's trusted to act independently and objectively. such an investigation should seek answers to several critical questions.
