leigh glaser is here. y and tonight is another "spare the air". >> leigh: we have had high pressure bringing us the sinking air so any particulate matters in the atmosphere is being pushed close to the surface. that's why they decided no wood-burning fireplaces tonight. we can actually -- the past couple of nights it has been socked in with the fog. the fog slowly starting to lift a little bit. it did so in some neighborhoods today. others, in the north bay, still socked in with the fog. temperaturewise, 56 in san francisco. fairfield, 57. and san jose climbed into the low 60s today. saw a little sunshine there they're at 58 degrees. we continue with areas of dense fog overnight, not as widespread as the past several evening. look for increasing clouds for monday, and then showers return to the bay area heading into tuesday. here's a look at the central valley fog. high pressure is with us, sinking air pushing that fog close to the surface. also have those northeast winds, so those winds are just grabbing t

for more on that, let's go to leigh glaser. >> leigh: let's take a look at the closeup satellite. we have higher pressure building in, and high pressure brings the sinking air. so the fog is very close to the surface. also quite a bit of central valley fog. and that high pressure is bringing a slight offshore wind and that's helping to drag the fog towards the ocean. clearly we have some fog near the coast as well. so, here's a look at current visibility for you. ten miles in santa rosa, and drops off towards sfo. seven miles. four miles, half moon bay. five mile in oakland. four in concord, and that dense fog advisory is in effect for the bay area, especially the inland valley areas, until 9:00 tomorrow morning, with visibility drping below a quarter of a mile. at it a no-burn day tomorrow, a winter "spare the air" is in effect for your sunday. we will take a look at the forecast coming up. >> alan: there are currently no weather delays at any of the bay area's three international airports. >>> an employee at napa state hospital is in serious condition tonight after being aattend

the next storm is just a few hours away, and leigh glaser is keeping an eye on live doppler 7hd. leigh? >> leigh: very active out there right now. you can see live doppler 7hd. just in the last couple hours, more moisture continuing to feed in towards the bay area. we have rain now in santa rosa, petaluma, novato, close to the golden gate bridge. some moderate rain on whipple road, and dublin, you're getting ready to get hit. some of the heaviest rain has been south of san jose. we're seeing now towards redwood city. this is gilroy, down towards hollister. check out this band of very heavy rain moving through monterey and salinas. heavy rain, definite for your sunday morning, and we look at the forecast coming up. >> alan: pg&e just restored power to more than 4,000 homes and businesses in half moon bay. they lost their electricity earlier this evening. crews also restored power to 27 customers in hollister. the utility blames the rain for equipment failures. >> despite the rain, this was a day a lot of people were counting on to finish their christmas shopping. lisa amin gulezian

leigh glaser reports. >> water flows through diamd canyon, down to 580 and 880 and here into the bay. >> this is where rain water from the creek watershed enters the bay. what is being done to enter the bacon tiansigh levels of pcp's and pesticides. >> there is legacy of pcb's but come to the level that make many fish unsafe to eat. >> storm drns and 15 industrial areas around the bay, waterways near richmond and san pablo were found to be heavily polluted. and t creek in san pab le, but they say the community has tried to help. >> stuff that u would see normally floating around the creek has been cleaned up. >> plastic bags are another poller. neighbors living next to this creek reored the creek side with native plants. it will reduce the amount of contaminants downstream. >> as the water slows down, all the sediment that is carrying will be able to slow down and fall out in suspenon and gets trapped. so all the contaminants that are attached to it are also trapped. >> while water quality in the bay has improved, more needs to be don and they are looking for the public for help. leig

and for a look at where that storm is tonight, let's go to leigh glaser who has been tracking it on live doppler 7hd. leigh? >> yes, and you can see behind me that the brunt of the cold front moved through rather rapidly, and we still have lingering showers, and some are producing some moderate areas of rain. petaluma right now reporting moderate rain. also a new fresh line is now starting to move in toward bailey city. south san francisco heading toward the golden gate bridge and even parts of san francisco and ocean beach, moderate rain with that system. the east bay has dried up a little bit. but you can see more activity gathering off the coast. very heavy rain now moving into the ben lowman area. close to an inch for kentfield. over half an inch for napa as well as oakland and san francisco. lesser amounts in the east and south bay locations. of course, with more rain moving in overnight tonight, those numbers will go up. let's look at the forecast coming up. >> thank you, leigh. >>> the two sides in the debate over same-sex marriage will lock horns at the highest level yet. the 9th

leigh glaser its more on what happened. >> under a sun lit sky, the tragedy of last night's storm was in plain view. high winds brought an oak down on one of the luxury guest areas killing a 70-year-old grandmother and trapping her granddaughter inside. >> luckily there was a tent next door with a father and son, and they heard the initial crash and then heard screaming. they went out and saw what happened. luckily they had a pair of scissors and they cut through the canvas of the tent to get out and take the seven-year-old girl out. >> here is what it looked like from sky 7hd. the at the present time was destroyed. -- the tent was de stroi.d they say this was the first tragedy since they opened to the public in 1993. >> we have had grief counselors from the fire department, and the group that was here opted to stay here. they really pulled together and they want to be together during this period of time. >> this morning sonoma county coroner identified the victim as 70-year-old gail falgoust, a retired school teacher. she was traveling with a group of road scholars with her seven-yea

leigh glaser is here to tell us what to expect. >> leigh: we got a break, which was nice after the heavy rain that moved through last night. things are starting to pick back up as another wave of moisture starting to move in. the live doppler 7hd getting active again. you can see moderate rain down towards american canyon. vallejo, ben nearby -- benecia. this area of rain will be moving into your neighborhood in the next 10-15 minutes. you can see the rain building up instinct -- building up near the coast. and some of the heaviest rains are near morgan hill down towards the hollister area. the bulk of the moisture that hit us this morning, it has moved into southern california, and you can clearly see they're getting hit with some very heavy rainfall. keep that in mind if you have travel plans. we'll take a look at the sierra forecast, and also let you know how much more rain to expect out of round two. >> alan: for a better look at how the bay area weathered the first round of rain, let's good to lisa amin gulezian, who is live in oakland. house is -- how's at it going? >> lisa: it's b

leigh glaser abc 7 news. >> i know they're okay. thank you very much. >> just traj dick. -- tragic. there is strong winds that brought down a huge tree in san nayo county just before midnight on 4th street. the branches took down power lines, crews showed up today to repair line autos 3500 customers were without power around bait area today. most everybody who lost power yesterday or before 8:00 in the morning because of the storm had their service restored. pg&e says crews were able to take advantage of the break and weather to work quickly. and as of 4:30 this afternoon just over 1800 customers were out power. the utility is blaming the outages on high winds. >> this is about 4:30 this morning we heard a cracking and then, all of a sudden a bm to get up to find this tree had fallen on top of the truck. >> the bay area wasn't the only victim withoutages, 10,000 homes and businesses lost power around south lake tahoe. high winds and trees snapping brought down the power line there's. >> a large tree fell across southbound lanes of highway 17 in santa cruz this morning. a tanker truc
