lillian kim joins us from a special vigil. reporter: the ceremony has wrapped up but people are still here, talking and supporting each other. it's been quite an emotional day. city leaders unveiled a black here at the city park honoring the eight people who died in a pg&e pipeline explosion two years ago today. the names are on the plaque, and family members walked up to take it in. it was not easy for them. some who recovered burn injuries. we spoke to two daughter of elizabeth torres. the 81-year-old died trying to flee her home. >> still at times can't believe she is gone, it really happened. >> does this help you? >> a little bit. >> nice that she is remembered, but it was -- i would rather her be here. so she ale -- really liked this park. reporter: in addition to the eight people who died, 38 homes were destroyed in the blast. several more people were injured and dozen more homes were damaged. the neighborhood is rebuilding. eight homes have been completed. 13 are underway. live in san bruno. abc-7 news. >> ama: milpita

lillian kim is at the store where it happened. lillian? >> larry this is the first day this 7-11 has been open for business sense the shooting and there has been a major change. there's now a security guard in front of the store. we have been told this extra security will remain indefinitely. news weekend shooting at the 7-11 on north milpitas boulevard has hit customers hard. some have even dropped off flowers and in honor of the clerk shot to death while working the overnight ship. police identify the employee as this man, 67-year-old milpitas rest didn't started working at the convenience store only a month ago. timothy is a regular customer. >> this guy he just started. seemed like a nice guy. wasn't violent at all or anything. he was just here working. >>reporter: police say he was shot during a robbery. employee says based on what he heard there were 3 men all wearing masks. they entered the store around 2a jumped over the cunter to take the cash. then shot the clerk. >> open the drawer so open then take money then go inside. >>repor

lillian kim is live in the oakland hills with a look at the damage. reporter: this is the sculpture vandalized sometime between last night and this morning. someone cut off five of the sculpture's metal bars. it's unclear the motive but it's likely they were taken with the intent to sell. this memorial is officially called the oakland fire storm memorial garden, and it is wired for security. there's lighting, a siren, and a video monitoring system. the community that maintains the memorial is hoping surveillance video will help them identify the person or people responsible. they're waiting for a call back from the security company that operates the camera. this isn't the first time this happened. the sculpture has been vandalized twice before. it's designed -- it's prominent part of the memorial garden and represents the regrowing of trees in the area after the fire storm of 1991. that's when fire destroyed 3,000 homes and killed 25 people here in the oakland hills. >> a bit angry. this is like kind of dancing on the grave of those that died. and an

lillian kim is there live tonight with how this happened. lillian? >>reporter: we are learning more about the 12-year-old girl. she attended this middle school and was new to the area. members of the community have been placing candles and flowers along the stretch of road where 12-year-old girl died while riding her bike. she was a student at this middle school, hailey. novato police say she was traveling west on novato boulevard when she collided with an suv going in the opposite direction. susan lives nearby and saw the aftermath. >> i was sick to my stomach. worried about her family. worried about her. >>reporter: hailey was taken to marin county hospital by ambulance trend transported by helicopter to children hospital in oakland where she was pronounced dead. police now trying to piece together what happened. >> the driver of the suv is very cooperative. doesn't appear to be any sign of impairment or illegal maneuvers but we are investigating that and exploring all options of the investigation. >>reporter: hailey moved to novato from new mexico
