it's friday and liz crenshaw joins us with answers in this week's edition of "ask liz." >> nice to seeou. happy friday. >>> our first question comes from a viewer whose name is greg and he sent it in on e-mail. he wants to know what's the difference in shelf life between those prepackaged lunch meats and the fresh deli sliced meats? >> sometimes you basically want the guy to slice it for you. we went to the u.s. department of agriculture for this answer. it says that prepackaged lunch meats are vacuum packed and can be stored at home in the 'fridge for up to two weeks before it's opened. once it's opened both prepackaged meats and fresh sliced deli meats can be safely stored only in the 'fridge for three to five days. that's it. if you want to hold on to that meat for longer usda says store that lunch meat in the freezer. it will last up to two months. but not very long, three to five days and that's it. >> okay. or freeze it. >> yep. >> our next question comes from susannah who wrote in on facebook and wants to know how old should your child be before you can safely put them in a jogg

liz crenshaw joins us now with the answers in today's ask liz.e you. >> when you think about all the snow stuff we've had to spend money on this year we didn't really so it's a good question. >> a very good question and our first one this lack of winter weather in the d.c. region this year. with very little snow or severe winter weather how much of the snow budget has actually been used? >> okay. we checked with several area jurisdictions to get the answer. they say the snow budget is used to pay for personnel, contractors, and supplies. in the district $5 million had been used out of the $6.2 million budget by the end of february. in prince george's county the total ice and snow budget removal is $2.4 million and they've used only about $800,000 so far this year. in virginia the budget is done on a state level and in northern virginia they used a little over $20 million of their $55 million budget. so personnel, supplies, the whole nine yards. >> save some for next year. our next question is about taxes. this is timely. viewers asked what do tho

liz crenshaw joins us for this week's "ask liz."riday, wendy. >> our first question comes from arlington. his apartment wants to raise his rent more than 25% and he wants to know are there any rules on rent control or rent increases in our area? >> it is a good question. i like it. we turned to several jurisdictions for the answer. in arlington there are no laws regarding rent control. however, there are mediation services offered by the county and residents are encouraged to contact arlington's housing services for help. in montgomery there are also no rent control rules or laws but the county does set a voluntary rent increase guideline that landlords are requested to honor. another example in d.c. most buildings built before 1976 are rent control buildings. that means the rent can only be raised once every 12 months and has to be less than the consumer price index of the property plus 10%. so d.c. has a limited one. other counties not so much. >> not so much. okay. our next question comes from marty in virginia. he says he hasn't

liz ann, who i follow closely and think is brilliant.m kind of concerned about the consumer out there. do they really have the power for an organic expansion? has employment improved enough? and have they deleveraged enough to really drive the economy from demand point of view? >> look, i think consumption will probably track not much better than income growth. so that is a driver of gdp is one of the reasons why i think gdp will still stay relatively constrained. you just have to look for where the pockets of strength are. the latest service date that on the debt service ratio puts it in the low debt service zone, which is a zone which we've gotten about 7% nominal gdp growth in the past and 5% real gdp growth there are other factors that go into it. i think we have made a meaningful dent. still have a ways to go in deleveraging. but the private sector has been pretty herculean in its efforts. the public sector, we're not there yet. but the private sector has done a pretty good job in the last few years. >> i want you to both weigh. in
