. ♪ ♪ lori: i'm lori rothman in for liz claman.ur of trading, it could be another day for the record books. two key market gauges are headed for new all-time highs if the s&p 500 closes above 1900.53, to be exact, it will score its second record close in a row. and the dow transports are headed for their first finish above 8,000. meantime, the russell 2000 is posting the biggest gain among the major averages, up more than 1%. the dow jones industrial average and the nasdaq, though, are posting more modest gains. stocks first got a boost on april durable goods numbers which blew away expectations. orders for big ticket items rose eight-tenths of a percent last month, they had been expected to fall. even better, march's orders were revised higher to show a 3.6% jump up from the 2.5% increase originally reported. the strong economic news did not stop there, two separate reports -- separate reports showed consumer confidence improving and home prices rising in march, surging a better than expected 12.4% from last year. well, in other h

lori? lori: go, kings, go. i'm liz claman today. david: no, rangers! lori: all right.ant to, paul, go right to one of your picks, because you have pilgrim's pride on your list, obviously a newsmaker today. what do you think's going to happen? i know hillshire bid for pinnacle and, you know, pilgrim was basically saying we're a much better match than that partnership. how do you think this is going to sort out? >> this is one of my favorite stock picks, and i picked it before i knew they were going to make this bid today, but this is a great company. it has a moderate pe of about 11, it has a 46% return on equity, it has huge free cash flow, and you look at what happened today in the market, both the stocks, hillshire and pilgrim's pride, went up. and so i think that says a lot about how the market views this. this is a great company, andbzhi believe that everyone thinks that this is a great merger. david: paul, let me stick with you for a second, i want to get a little optimistic after my pessimism and talk about asia for a second because we already know they don't nee

>> "america tonight"'s are lori jane gliha joins us now.egan a very brave woman to tell her story this way but it makes you wonder, how does this get put aside ignored for such a long time? >> there are people all over the country asking their local police departments, how could this happen? in memphis the mayor has appointed a specialing board to determine why this happened. detectives doubted her if this is a prosecutable crime, why do a rape kit. but there's also a question of if an attacker accommodation forward and admits to doing the crime, do they really need to test it, already identify the attacker. there are cases where the victim says i don't want to prosecute they don't have the other side of the case there is no reason to do the rape kit at that point. you consider the cost, all of these police departments aren't rolling in dough, it can be up in $500 to $1,000. that's another issue. specifically in the memphis case, they had a problem the way they stored the kits. originally they thought there was about 2,000 untested kits. bu
