david louie joins us from the scene. >> reporter: the shooting happened right here on blossom hill road. an officer-involved shooting is very serious. and homicide detectives have been called in. the person who called san jose police said the woman was armed with an uzi but it may have been a drill. mri police tried to negotiate with the woman as she remained inside the complex unit. the caller who called police said she had an uzi and was threatening to kill family members. officers surrounded the complex. the woman came out the front door. police said she appeared to have a weapon in her hand. an officer fired shots and the woman was hit at least once. >> he was over the top of her. looked like he had both his hands on her chest or the top of her. then the emts came. >> reporter: the object in the woman's hand landed in the road. it has the appearance of a weapon. however, from the ground it appears to be a handheld battery powered drill. the san jose police department spokesperson says they had reasonable concern the officers' lives might be at risk. >> we had a call, somebody with a

here's david louie. >> reporter: 11-year-old sparky has always been special to the mckenzie family. they rescued him at the animal shelter when he was 3 1/2. his life was cut short when two teenagers broke into the mckenzie home and clubbed sparky, leaving him for dead for no apparent reason. >> he's always been more of the protector of the house. it's possible that maybe he was just kind of defending his home. but he's a little dog. like who -- i can't even -- i don't know. i'm at a loss of words. >> reporter: two other family dogs were not harmed. police say the teenagers broke into several homes at this upscale neighborhood. but what they did to sparky was unimaginable. police caught up with the two boys when one resident caught them burglarizing his house. >> my understanding is one of the children was responsible for killing the dog. and according to the police, the other one acted like he didn't realize it. you know, that he had gone upstairs and killed the dog with my golf club, by the way. >> reporter: the teenagers have been sent to juvenile hall and booked for residential

florence louie has more from kuala lumpur. >> reporter: the national carrier has been in poor financial health and has been operating at a loss, it's in need of a capital injection. pulling the company in state hands is one aof saving it. analysts speculated that the other option would be to allow it to go into bankruptcy. the malaysian country ruled it out. they put forward a proposal to take over the shares, it owned 70%, close to 70% of the shares and planned to buy 30% that is traded on the stock exchange. it's offering a premium of 12.5% over the last traded price. it's an exercise that will cost about $470 million. it plans to combalance sheetly overhaul the airline and this is the first step in restructuring the company. how and what it will entail, it's not been reveried yet. there are -- revealed net yet. there are things that the state investor would look at - perhaps replacing the entire team among some. >> taking the country off the stock exchange, delisting it means it can do these things without answering to minority shareholders. to do so will be to try to regain the trus
