and i'm marcus washington. more on those stories in just a moment. but first, we are following breaking news this midday. a federal court is rejecting an emergency appeal surrounding a transgender volleyball player at san jose state university. meaning the trans player is still allowed to play on the team. it comes after the ruling saying that all players are allowed on the women's team. the first suit argued that their rights were being violated by allowing that trans athlete to play for the women's team. the judge in that case says that the mountain west conference policy clearly allows trans athletes to compete. also breaking at this hour an animal rights extremist believed to be behind a pair of bombings over two decades ago in emeryville, was caught in wales. the fbi arrested 46 year old daniel andreas, san diego yesterday. he's been linked to two homemade pipe bombs that went off back in 2003 at chiron corporation, a biotech company in emeryville. he's also accused of sending a bomb strapped with nails th

and i'm marcus washington. so let's get this thanksgiving started with a look at that forecast for you. forecaster cinthia pimentel has a look at a cold start for us. definitely. we are looking at a frost advisory this morning until nine. areas shaded in blue. so that includes the north bay the east bay hills and down into parts of the foothills down here in san jose. so i want you to lay up as you get the day started and protect those, especially important for you. let's look at some of the coldest numbers on the map. boulder creek not included in this frost advisory, but 29 degrees on this thanksgiving morning. 31 in danville. and we go into the low 30s up there in the north bay. 33 in sonoma. aside from getting the day started on a cold note. maybe you're trying to get to that thanksgiving destination. i want you to be careful for that dense fog that we're seeing through the valleys, including parts of the delta here for solano county. that will be with us until 11:00 this morning. we start to clear things o

i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia. we'll check that morning commute with mike in just a little bit. already on wednesday, kari got a look at what we can expect. weather wise. more changes for today. we're starting out dry and across the bay area. cool temperatures as we take a live look outside in san jose. it is only 47 degrees and it may even drop a couple of more degrees in the next couple of hours. and then we'll see partly to mostly cloudy skies, at least into the early afternoon. but eventually this is going to be heading our way with some rain chances increasing for the late morning into the afternoon. first starting in the north bay. so at 11:00 we're seeing rain moving into ukiah, calistoga, santa rosa and san rafael and also just starting to approach napa before lunchtime. some scattered showers will continue through early in the afternoon and then eventually take a break for tonight. with the exception of the north bay, where that rain may linger a little bit longer into early tomorrow morning and then hit o

i'm in for laura garcia, and i'm marcus washington.et a look at that forecast for you this morning. meteorologist kari hall has been tracking what we can expect. we talked about those windy conditions, so that's a big concern for us. we're going to be talking a lot about the high wind. even though most of us aren't feeling much of a wind this morning, it will become a lot more gusty over the next couple of days and last for several days. hour by hour, we are showing winds at about 10 to 15mph, maybe a little bit higher in some spots. but notice that as it turns red and those color contours, the winds get stronger. it will be 25 to 30 mile per hour winds later this evening. but tomorrow is what we're really watching with even higher wind gusts that could top 50mph in some of our hills and mountains. temperature wise, we are going to see some low to mid 70s for today. upper 70s for the inland east bay to the north. bay with a high of 78 degrees expected in santa rosa and 71 in san francisco. once again, we'll talk about the changes comin

and i'm marcus washington. we begin with our microclimate weather alert this morning. here is a look for you outside across the bay area. a red flag warning starting today, leading to the possibility of thousands of bay area customers losing power. the elevated threat will continue through thursday. now, today, some polling locations may close as a result. we already know about one closure. it's in the oakland hills. this is video of joaquin miller voting center number 73 on sanborn drive. we have a live look at the pg&e outage map for you. the graphic on your right shows the potential power shut off outages per county now numbering more than 10,000. bay area wide. let's bring in meteorologist kari hall. she's tracking the red flag warning for us. and what conditions look like for today. well, we're starting out with a calm wind, but the wind will be picking up as we go throughout the day. the red flag warning begins at 11 a.m, and that's when some of our hills mountains will start to see those gusts picking up. that could top over 50mph over the next couple of days. s

and i'm marcus washington. all right. let's get a look at what we can expect from that forecast this morning. kari. how's it looking? we are looking really good. i mean, i don't know if it could get any better. when we talk about our thanksgiving forecast, not having to worry about storms or sierra snow, things are clearing out after a wet start to the week. so right now it is getting a little chilly out there. we're at 42 in walnut creek, and it's 53 in san francisco and 50 in palo alto. after our cool morning start in some spots it has dipped into the 30s. in the north bay, we're seeing some patches of fog, and now 36 degrees in san rafael, but a gradual warm up with lots of sunshine today and our highs headed for the low 60s for many in the north bay, as well as the south bay. we'll track our thanksgiving forecast coming up in a few minutes. and mike, you're still tracking that traffic alert. i am kari, folks. despite the lighter volume of traffic, which we anticipated for this morning and the good driving c

and i'm marcus washington. we've got the commute on lock for you. mike has that for us. but first let's talk about that forecast friday. forecast. rain or shine, we don't care. it's friday. all right. and we'll have a little bit of sunshine a little bit of rain. most of that rain coming in later tonight. but it's starting out cold this morning. check out the north bay temperatures again dropping down into the upper 30s and low 40s. it's 41 in sonoma and 38 in santa rosa. while we're mostly seeing 40s in the east bay, it is now 44, in livermore and in san jose, 48 degrees, 50 in san mateo and in san francisco. so checking out palo alto, we're in the upper 40s right now. it's going to be mostly clear until the clouds start to roll in, which will give us kind of some filtered sunshine throughout the day. a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the upper 60s. we are seeing a lot of these numbers matching what we've had mostly throughout the week. but then later tonight that rain will be arriving, so i'll time that out for you and mike. it seems now like it's finally friday ligh

now that it is, i'm marcus washington. and of course, we have a lot for you this morning, mike. of course. keeping an eye on the roads. yeah, we'll get to that in just a bit. but let's talk about it coming into work today. the rain started. i'm back. yes, the rain is back for most of us. not everyone. last week it was focused on the north bay. this time it's the south bay. and it's all a part of this big storm system that we can see driving all of that rain across the region. and that area of low pressure that's pushing it into the bay area coastline. now we're going to see some waves of rain coming in over the next few hours, and looking at some of the heaviest rain, once again from san francisco on southward, our storm ranger tracking the pockets of the heavier rain now moving across the peninsula and into the tri-valley as well as the south bay. a closer look shows even some spotty rain for parts of the north bay around santa rosa and moving over toward northern napa county and pacifica really picking up on some heavy rain right now that's extending down the peninsula into pa

i'm marcus washington. i'm laura garcia. it is thursday morning. let's start out with a look at the forecast. meteorologist kari hall tracking what we can expect. a lot of rain for parts of the north bay, but cloudy skies and cool temperatures for us all. so we're going to see a mixed bag of weather as we see this unsettled weather continue with this system dropping in from the north. a closer look shows that we are getting some rain over parts of northern napa and sonoma counties and marin county as well, and it's going to be hit or miss with the rain activity as cool temperatures settle in all across the bay area. danville, you're one of the cooler spots. you're at 43 right now, and it is 53 in san mateo. much of the north bay in the upper 40s and low 50s and napa will see a spotty shower moving through right at about noon. otherwise, it will be partly cloudy. highs in the low 60s, and we will have another chance of rain in the forecast for the north bay for this morning. we'll talk more about that coming up. mike, there are some incidents right

i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia. yep. you can see the radar behind us. now everybody is talking about this storm that's just deciding to sit over the bay area. kari has been monitoring things, and it's been just sitting over the north bay, especially where we've seen the heavy rain. it continues this morning as we take a live look outside in san rafael. and it's also been raining off and on for san francisco. and we have our storm ranger mobile doppler radar parked on san bruno mountain. you can see the showers that are coming down as this is scanning around the bay area. so here's what to expect. that storm moving into much more of the bay area with times of showers. this weekend. there will be some breaks as well, and the cierra will have a winter storm warning in effect. as we are seeing this very powerful storm system and the center of the low here, we're seeing another one developing right behind that. that's going to continue to strengthen and then basically kick everything into gear and push that into the areas farther south that haven't yet measu

and i'm marcus washington. a lot to talk about this morning. but first let's get you caught up on that forecast. i was looking ahead. kari. i'm kind of excited that we get a little break. we're getting a break from the rain, but it's also going to be cold over these next few days. and there's still some rain lingering across parts of the region. so as we get a look at stormranger, we are all clear for much of the south bay right now, but still notice those lingering showers in the north bay around the santa rosa area just south. and we're also seeing a lot of rain south of the bay area, as of much of the central coast and parts of socal gets some rain as well as snow as you go up in elevation. so that's going to be the case as we go throughout the day. temperature wise, we're headed for the upper 50s and low 60s. overall, it's going to be a cool and mostly cloudy day with some peeks of sunshine here and there. concord will see a high of 62. there, 60 in hayward and also upper 50s and low 60s for the peninsula into san francisco, 58 degrees for

and i'm marcus washington.ook at that forecast, because we've been talking about that incoming rain. meteorologist kari hall has a look at that timeline for us. yeah, we don't have to say incoming because it's already here. it's been raining in the north bay. we're seeing the rain coming down in san francisco. and much of the rest of the bay area will continue to see that rain coming in over the next few hours, but the heavier rain is still to the north of us, and we will see that moving in by about 8 to 9:00 in the north bay and moving into san francisco, getting heavier there. and we're going to continue to see the rain continue, at least into noon. but for the south bay, it may be a little bit later as the north bay starts to get some clearing and then into the evening, it is looking much clearer and temperatures will be dropping as well. behind this cold front moving through. so it's already creating the slick conditions now at the bay bridge toll plaza. min carey. as we show folks at home, you see the shee

and i'm marcus washington. well, we've been talking about that rain and storm. ranger is active this morning atop of mount bruno. and i want to show you right here a live look from atop of the other spots across the bay area this morning. as this atmospheric river will bring rain over the coming hours and days. now, the same storm moving into the bay area is already having a huge impact in the pacific northwest. authorities say a fallen tree killed a woman at a homeless encampment last night outside of seattle, and two others were injured when a tree fell on a mobile home in puget sound across washington state. more than a half a million people are waking up this morning without power. some of the wind speeds are approaching 100mph near vancouver island, and first responders are working to rescue people and clear debris along fallen, along with fallen trees. now, meteorologist kari hall, of course, been tracking this storm overnight, so how are we looking so far here at home? well, we are seeing the heavier rain now targeting parts of northern california, but yo

i'm marcus washington, and i'm laura garcia. we're going to check in with mike for a look at that tuesday morning commute. a lot of people hit the road, but vianey is in for kari this morning. good to see you. good to see you as well. our last full day of completely dry conditions before we get the wet weather moving in. today will be a day for prepping. depending on where you live. but one thing you will also notice is just how cold it is. the frost advisories remain in effect and these are the current temperatures right now. we've got 30s for most of the bay area from south san jose. look at fairfield 33 degrees up through parts of the north bay, 33 as well. and just to give you an idea, here's the temperature difference. compared to the past 24 hours running about 11 degrees colder right now in morgan hill, ten degrees cooler in oakland, and things will stay dry but cool throughout the remainder of the afternoon. we're in the 40s through about 9:10 a.m. for a lot of the spots, and then will be in the upper 50s low 60s. now i
