joining me now, nbc news senior political editor mark murray.ce to see you as always. >> good morning. >> let's start with the latest nbc news "the wall street journal" numbers. break it down for us what do they show? >> big take away republicans are split on jeb bush when it comes to his potential candidacy. 49% of republicans say they could see themselves supporting jeb bush in a republican primary field, 42% said they could not see him. so you know plus seven, that's not bad, but certainly also where you might not expect for somebody whose last name is bush whose father and brother were both president. the poll also shows that chris christie and donald trump and lindsey graham are inch worse position than jeb bush is. we are going to debut the full poll later this evening at 6:30 tonight. you'll see where folks like marco rubio and scott walker stand on that list. >> anxious to see that. for now, tell us about jeb bush and his debut in conservative iowa. he held kind of a pizza party at a pizza par lore. able to win over support from that? >>

mark murray is here to explain. how telling are these early moves during the so-called invisible primaryies? >> this is all about going for. the endorsements and trying to raise money to really jockey for position to kind of see who is in stature, who is in first in the little horse race. the most important thing is kind of see if someone is going to be able to lock down their party is all the endorsements. watch the endorsements from members of congress sitting senators and governors, those are the best predictor if they can get the party on their side or is this going to be a competitive primary. >> it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get the nomination. >> absolutely. the person who is usually leading the polls doesn't always win. that's why in some ways these endorsements are so important. we have seen george w. bush in 2000 when he got 80% of all republicans, you knew how that primary was going to break. so things to pay attention to is this invisible primary stage. >> mark murray thank you so much. >>>

joining me for first read senior political editor mark murray.made in the last hour with senator ted cruz. >> yeah. and what's fascinating, tamron is that there are three big pillars of the republican party, establishment, big money pillar you have the social conservative pillar and you have your tea party libertarian pillar. ted cruz today in his remarks hit on two big pillars, the social conservative one and liberty, libertarian ones and often in past republican presidential elections, always put your money, place your bets on the establishment winning the republican nomination but as we saw in 2008 with mike huckabee and in 2012 with rick santorum winning in iowa you can end up getting relevancy, make traction by appealing to the social conservative pillar. >> first read has the official state of the 2016 field and where things stand. >> and tamron you and i have been talking about 2016 for probably the past two years. it is interesting to note that today for the first time we have a major candidate who officially announced his or her own pres

joining me msnbc reporter alex sites wall who is following clinton at the united nations and mark murray. let's get to it starting with you, alex you reported that hillary clinton would speak publicly soon. what are we expecting today? >> reporter: after more than a week and three states in which hillary clinton didn't address this swirling controversy, she's going to speak with reporters after her speak today at the united nations. she will say she used it for convenience, archived properly, that's what a source familiar with the matter told me yesterday evening. we expect she will defend herself, say she did nothing wrong, and this is a big distraction for her. her team hoped to avoid discussing the issue until after she declared a presidential run sometime next month, clearly the situation got away from them. now they're thinking they have to get ahead of this hopefully put it behind him. we will see if that happens by end of the day. >> absolutely. and reince priebus sent this out ahead of the news conference, anything sort of releasing the secret server to an independent ash ter wou

and bringing in mark murray.. >> good morning, jose. >> we're expecting the prime minister of israel to speak any minute now but speaking to congress tomorrow. what are the potential ramifications here? >> the biggest political ramification is this further politicizes the issue of israel here in the united states and you mentioned the new poll numbers we ended up having yesterday, and there is a very big partisan split. 66% of democrats say that netanyahu shouldn't have been invited, versus just 28% of republicans. so it really shows you that there is a big difference between democrats and republicans on this issue and one way of actually almost viewing this entire spat jose is through the lens of u.s. domestic politics where there's a natural alliance in a lot of ways between netanyahu's likud party and today's republican party, and conversely the democrats seem to have more of an alliance when it comes to more centrist or labor parties in israel, and so when we have a big disagreement a lot of times between dem
