martin savidge is live in sanford. what is the reaction to all the latest, martin? >> reporter: well, there's been a lot of reaction in many different directions actually. first of all, this information coming out, this leaked police report was certainly very unsettling to the familiy membes and to a great number of protesters. they begin to wonder what about the timing. it was exactly one month since the shooting of the 17-year-old and suddenly this police report comes out and it's a police report that now apparently paints the young student, the young 17-year-old as the aggressor in this particular case and up to this point, of course, many people have been demanding the arrest of george zimmerman. now, it would seem to support the account that george zimmerman has given to authorities but as you've already heard there's a great deal of conflict between some of the testimony that other witnesses have given, the family members certainly don't believe this is a true account. however, the attorney for george zimmerman says, yes, it fits the whole story they've been t

and that zimmerman targeted martin because martin was black.records show zimmerman made 46 calls to the police in 2011, mostly reporting african- americans. the local police said florida law prevented them from arresting zimmerman. florida stand your ground law passed in 2005 states that a person who feels threatened has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force. now washington is involved. the u.s. justice department civil rights division is investigating whether a hate crime has occurred in sanford. >> conducting a thorough independent investigation of the facts and rrounding the dea martin. >> question, is there any evidence to substantiate zimmerman's claim that he acted in self-defense? admonish snell. >> no. at least from everything that i've read so far there's no evidence to either contradict it or to substantiate what he has said. >> what about -- martin putting his hand in here to apparently leave the impression -- simulate he's got a gun? >> we don't know he was

breaking news this evening in the trayvon martin case. video has surfaced from the night george zimmerman shot and kill trade von martin. abc news has obtained police surveillance of george zimmerman as he arrived at the police station after he was taken into custody. the video does not appear to show blood on the back of zimmerman's head or nose. the video show is no bruises on the back of his head. zimmerman had claimed trayvon martin punched him in the nose and slammed the back of his head into the ground. this police surveillance video shows zimmerman arriving at the station in the police cruiser. as you can see, zimmerman's head is clearly shaven. keep in mind that in the initial police report, officer tim smith said he could observe that his back appeared to be wet and was covered in grass, as if he had been lying on his back on the ground. zimmerman was also bleeding from the nose and the back of his head. the police report also said zimmerman was with attended to by medics at the scene of the crime, but as you can see, there are n
