abc's matt gutman is there. >> reporter: what you're watching is one of the many eruptions that haveeen blasting out of kilauea all day today. this is what scientists and volcanologists have been warning of for weeks now. what they're saying is that the lava level in kilauea has subsided to the extent that it has interacted with the water table causing these steam-driven explosions, and those eruptions are the biggest blasts erupting out of kilauea in nearly a century, 100 years since the 1924 eruption, and what they're saying is that this could smother parts of the island closing down the airports. there is no major threat to human health at this point, but the national weather service saying that exposure to the ash and the gas could be hazardous and they're warning people who live nearby to avoid too much exposure to the outdoors at this point. also, local agencies and authorities are warning people to avoid the roads because that ash could obscure the road and there are other hazards but right now no major concerns for the population, however, those volcanologists say that could
