cheryl preheim and matt renoux are live in rio. we're talking, of course, about emma coburn who won a bronze in american olympian to ever win any medal in that race, a really special moment. a lot of people in crested butte, her hometown, cu boulder where she went to school, still lives and trains were watching and she had a group of 20 loved ones watching in rio as well including her mom and dad. >> over the moon, so happy, so thrilled, so beyond, yeah. it's amazing. it's amazing. seeing a medal around her neck like for real on the podium, couldn't be more overjoyed. >> we watch everything she gives and it's everything. we're so happy and proud for her. >> reporter: you just get such a sense of it when you see the pictures of those moments in the final parts of the race and then she crosses the line and you can see it on her face that she can't believe that she is that moment and it dawns on her and she grabs the flag and wraps herself in it. we're just so happy for her. i know rod mackey will have more coming up later in sports.

cheryl preheim and matt renoux join live once again from rio. team u-s-a's home away from home it does- and team has a great back story. it does- and team usa will leave a neat gift behind for hundreds of kids because of it. all during the olympics team usa athletes have been hanging out in the their usa house just off ipanema beach which is also a school for around 600 kids the usa house towers several stories high and has great views of the beachperfect for all the athletes looking to rest after competitionbut the building is also a schoolbefore they took the house over team usa fixed broken down walls, put in internet and wifi, installed fire safety improvements, and much more the athletes also took a picture with all 500 or so athletes in it and will leave that for the kids we are heading into the weekend before opening ceremony everyone wants to make sure they have seen all the most famous tourist sights in rio. we found enormous crowds at christ the redeemer unlike rio has ever seen before. but you can understand why anyone would wait for
