megan mcgrath is live at the scene now. what's latest there?> reporter: this shooting proved to be deadly. the victim an adult male found here on the scene on southern avenue. taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead. i spoke to a man who lives in a nearby apartment building and he says just before 3:00 this morning, he heard several gunshots, he thinks with five or so. very fast. and that's when he realized that something was wrong here just down the street from his complex. southern avenue is closed in both directions. the investigation continuing here on the scene. police have not made any arrests at this point and they are looking for witnesses. now, will this comes in the midst of an alarming spike in lee proved to be deadly. the police chief, mayor, they promised action saying that they have zero tolerance for this kind of violence. they want to increase patrols. but again, overnight another murder here in the district. and anyone who was in the area, southern avenue, if you heard anything, saw anything, you're asked t

news 4's meagan mcgrath is live checking out the traffic right now.ow are things look sng. >> we are just approaching the toll booth here, take a live look for yourself. we're in one of those ez pass only lanes here on the far right, and you can see, look, we are cruising right through. we didn't have to wait at all. now coming out the other side of the toll booth here we are seeing that merge. basically you have 11 toll booths, all of those lanes have to merge down to get into two lanes on the traditional eastbound span. now, within the last couple of hours right around add a third eastbound lane. so what they're doing is running that two-way traffic on what's traditionally the westbound span. so we have seen an extra lane added here. and it seems to be doing the trick. the idea here was that you leave early, by 11:00 or so, and that you should be okay. and that's what we're seeing, things are a-okay now. however things are beginning to stack up and build. 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. that's when we're expecting the more heavy traffic to really start causing so

megan mcgrath talked to passengers about the emergency repairs this morning.he's live in largo now. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, aaron. metro had just released a draft of tsafe track plan to overhaul the system and now federal transportation officials are weighing in and they want changes. specifically they are calling for immediate repairs to lee areas along the system. take a look. the medical center to van ness section of track, potomac avenue to the d and g junction, the stadium armory benning road and minnesota avenue station, and then a third area, ballston to east falls church. now, the changes may push back the rollout of the safe track program. some are concerned about that. i spoke to one woman this morning here this largo and she says these repairs can't be made efficiently. she may stop riding the rail. >> because there are limits to your patience. >> there are. >> reporter: and metro is reviewing the fta's letter. they will modify their final version of the safe track plan, but probably won't be ready by may 16th as originally planned.

news4's megan mcgrath is live at the intersection of route 29 and musgrove road. >> reporter: the two vehicles involved were 15-passenger vans carrying school children who are here from bermuda for a trip. they were on route 29 this morning when one of those vans rear ended the other. take a look at the video here. you can see the damage that was done here. the front end damage to the one van, the air bags deployed, the other had damage to the bumper and the rear area with those double doors there. now are we're told that most of the kids on board were okay. they did have some minor injuries, some of the children, but everyone is going to be okay. it was nothing terribly serious. we're told that the children range in age from 12 to 14. they were transported to a hospital. some just for evaluation as a precaution, others had just kind of bumps and bruises, apparently some bloody noses i heard from one witness. they were being treated at area hospitals and two chaperones taken from the scene as well. everybody is going to be okay, no serious injuries. for a while here on colombia pike,
