the jma, the japan meteorological agency has issued warnings in response for landslides and the possibility of flash flooding in western japan. into the weekend it is going to be quite wet. we've got another front which is extending across the korean peninsula and into central and southern japan. that's going to be bringing daily totals of about 150 millimeters of rain. so it is going to be wet for friday and saturday. but down towards the south where we haven't seen so much rain in the last little while, we've got drought conditions here, that will help to ease that situation. another small low heading into hokkaido is going to bring some storms, could be a little bit on the severe side. temperaturewise then on friday looks like another hot day in chongqing, 37 degrees and staying dry. picking up the showers in shanghai, continuing rain in taipei there as well. seoul going to be see some showers, 30 degrees for the high. tokyo should be staying mostly dry with a high of 34. on then into the americas. what we're seeing here is some increased monsoonal flow across the southwest. you can be s

japan meteorological agency expects become a weak typhoon at one point before it starts to weaken out and continue to track off here towards the north. if you're in kyushu, don't expect it to be a typhoon by the time it gets to your area. a big rainmaker by the weekend. hokkai hokkaido, we have a separate storm system, not tropical, but this one has been bringing some heavy rainfall. northern hokkaido we saw one report about 90 millimeters in a one-hour span there. about 180 millimeters in just three hours. that's record breaking for the month of august. pretty small but potent storm system. it's going to continue to work its way off to the east. some break in the middle. then we have another storm system pushing across central and eastern china. eastern china has been seeing rain showers from this. it's going to be widespread about 50 to 150 millimeters rain in some areas here. not welcomed at all. you've been seeing some pretty severe flooding. all week we've been showing you these videos. show you another one out of eastern china here. four people were rescued by firefighters after

when you think of meteorology, you think of the difficulty of classifying a hurricane and tracking a hurricane, making judgments about such complex behavior that has sort of chaotic premises underlying it, you're going to make lots of mistakes. you're going to make lots of mistakes in both directions. sometimes you're going to make a mistake when you think the storm is going to hit and it doesn't and sometimes you're going to make mistakes where you think the storm is not going to hit and it does. and i think one of the great challenges, quite frankly, for the legal system, is understanding statistics well enough to make that judgment about where you draw that line that anita was referring to about where do you want to avoid the errors. you want to avoid the errors, a category five hurricane is going to hit miami but there is only a 40% likelihood that that hurricane is going to hit miami, do you evacuate the city? well, if you evacuate the city and it doesn't hit, you spent tons of money and possibly hurt lots of people in doing that. if you don't evacuate the city and the storm hit
