good evening, i'm micah materre. >> and i'm mark suppelsa. it's our top story, the three big fires in chicago and two deadly. we start with dan pompei who has more on the child who was killed, dan. >> reporter: the boy's name, deavian arnold, only three years old. his mother told me tonight he was especially close with his grandmother who survived the fire. 3-year-old deavian arnold was home this afternoon when the fire started. firefighters say it began in the kitchen on the stove and quickly began to cabinets and ceilings. neighbors tried to call 911 and tried to get in the apartment after seeing the boy knocking on the window in the back bathroom. >> we couldn't kick that door open. it had a dead bolt on it or something because we couldn't get it open. saw him tapping on the windows. >> reporter: firefighters and ambulances were on the scenes within minutes. they immediately found the grandmother lying unconscious on the floor and then searched the rest of the apartment? they found the child in the bedroom behind the bed between the bed an

good evening, i'm micah materre. >> and i'm mark suppelsa, our top story seen around the country around america tonight is that cop killer behind bars. dan pompei has our top story. >> reporter: they say they are confident they have the right man. he also expressed satisfaction and relieve that a killer is no longer on the street. he's 19 years old but already has a history. police say he is the man who shot and killed chicago police officer michael flisk and steven peters. friday afternoon, officer flisk and an evidence technician was processing a crime scene after steven peters called in a burglary. police say the suspect snuck up behind them and shot them to death. >> the weapons recovered were in their holsters so it appears this individual snuck up on them, and they never had a chance to defend themselves. hopefully that will play out later in court but that's what we know this time. >> reporter: police would not release much information about the investigation but say they believe herring killed the two men because he was trying to cover up an earlier burglary he committed. >> can

representative john micah of florida is trying to take advantage of complaints about the pat downs tryinge companies to private security. turns out, private security would have to do the same exact procedures as the tsa guards. but the executives of the private companies would get to take home an extra profit off the top. funny how that works, now, are you going to be surprised to find out that according to the associated press, governor micah has collected millions over the past few years at private security firms and airports. we called his office and they say that money was collected over a long period of time, so it's not as bad as it looks. the tsa was not around for that whole time. but the drive to hire private security at airports has been around the whole period and the fact he's been taking money from those firms the whole time is hardly reassuring. does anyone think they would be this motivated to push private security minus the money? this is how our democracy is bought. it's not necessarily that the politicians are bad people, it's just that the system is structured that they

but there are some people like congressman micah who's very influential and in the whole transportation area on capitol hill who believes the private firms would be more accountable, that they'd be more responsive, that there wouldn't be as much bureaucracy. i can tell you, there have been a number of studies over the years that have evaluated private screeners, since they're at about 16 airports now, and the tso screeners. in some cases they perform equally poorly and others, the private screeners a little bit more. so, you know, the jury, some people would say the jury is still out on whether -- how much of a difference it would really make on the private screenings, but we do know orlando is now opting to go with a private firm. they're going to do away with tsa screeners erers there. >> we're hearing the tsa any minute may make an announcements with regard for pilots going through the security measures, the screenings. can you do me a favor and stand by, i'd love to get your reaction once we hear from the tsa momentarily. stand by for that. thank you. >>> there have been false alarm
