joining us now is cnn political commentator of "smerconish," michael smerconish.l. >> good morning. >> how big of a deal do you think this is almost $1 million in loans. at least he says he's disclosed it many times but the s.e.c. says not so fast? >> right, it's a disclosure issue. he should have revealed. there's a legitimate purpose behind this disclosure requirement. and that is, the public has a right to know whether there's a cozy relationship between whomever is providing the loan and the candidate. and i think that gets to the real issue for cruz which is one of authenticity. as you made reference before the break he likes to rail against donald trump and those quote/unquote new york values. he's also someone who has gone after quote/unquote crony capitalism. so i think it goes to the heart of who he is. now, for his part, i expect today you're going to hear more this is an attack from the liberal "the new york times." and in some supporters who support ted cruz that will play very well. >> well, this is a little reflection what we saw with the ethanol. th

we can bring in now cnn political commentator and host of "smerconish," michael smerconish.g. >> we saw sarah palin in full campaign mode. she trotted out lots of old and new palinisms. what do you think her endorsement does for the donald trump campaign? >> i think it's significant. it's part of a trifecta of good news that trump has had, given his just props. he had a good debate performance. now he picks up this endorsement, plus the influence of governor branstad. it's creating momentum in his favor at precisely the right time. alisyn, i don't know what kind of influence she has left. whatever sway she still holds, i think she holds in iowa among evangelicals. she is the original anti-establishment candidate. there are so many similarities between the two of them, gender aside, so i'm not really surprised by this but it's a big coup. >> ralph reed says he knows how much weight and cache her endorsement holds. palin's brand among evangelicals is as gold as the faucets in trump tower. endorsements alone don't guarantee victory but this may turn the fight over the evangelic

i saw you sort of scoff when michael smerconish said that kasich turned in a great performance.of the other people on stage beyond cruz and trump. what did you think of john kasich, chris christie, jeb bush, hugh? >> john kasich is my governor, my friend. i have american values. the john kasich did very well with what he planned to do. he is doggedly sticking to the experience card. he brings up the same script. it must work in town halls in new hampshire that i don't go to and he must be banking on it. because he does not depart from it. it doesn't play for me on television. i don't think it plays for the national audience. i don't think it plays in iowa. maybe it plays in new hampshire. dr. carson has faded. i don't see him as being a force in this. jeb bush almost faded but he climbed back into the ring a couple of times. very defendatally when he brougp our muslim friends in indonesia. the big four, there's one tier at the top, trump, cruz, rubio and christie and the top two are trump and rubio with ted cruz, has a rematch coming up next week with donald trump. i expect more
