let's check in with mike nicco with a look at the rest of the forecast. mike?good morning. look what's behind me. those are lightning bolts. that's a thunderstorm heading towards clayton right now. let's take a look at what it's been doing the last 35 to 40 minutes. discovery bay, the possibility of hail. purple signifies small hail if not really large rain drops. some brief, heavy downpours as it moved along to brentwood. the intensity is down but still dropping plenty of bolts. you need to be careful. and it's the definition of an isolated thunderstorm. it's about the only one in town except for the one just to the west that's now developing west of mt. st. helena. around windsor between clover dale and santa rosa. we have a chance of drizzle and isolated thundertorms with lightning and hail and gusty winds and heavy downpours. most of us will miss out on that, though, and have to deal with the drizzle. temperatures low to mid-60s. we're pretty much that way everywhere until you get down into san jose near 68 degrees. a look at the golden gate bridge. pretty

meteorologist mike nicco has yo >>> now your accuweather forecast with mike nicco. >> all the talk abouthe south bay, thought we'd start this segment with a look at san jose, 280 and 17, it's much calmer and brightinger than it was earlier this morning. we're going to have a mixture of sun and close toduds today. warm once again. not record setting like it was yesterday. but the humidity's going to make it feel almost as warm. storms possible today and tomorrow. and then the midweek dip before another warming trend for the weekend. amazing how they keep timing out to the weekend. all right. right now, look at these temperatures already in the 80s in the south bay. inland, east bay, 70s around the b bay. even san francisco 76. half moon bay at 81. going to have to revise that temperature. little cooler than that. mid to upper 70s in the north bay. here's what i think is going to happen for our highs today. 79 in san francisco. low to mid 80s around the bay. upper 80s to low 90s in the south bay. we'll have mid to upper 80s in the north bay. look at the mid to upper 90s in inland east bay

let's go over to meteorologist mike nicco. i can't believe we are already tracking another storm of this magnitude. >> yeah, it's amazing, isn't it, that there's that much energy in the atmosphere to support storms. in fact, we have three of them out there right now. we will start with the northernmost and that's josÉ. if you are heading up to new england it will be a breezy day with dangerous rip currents all from the carolinas up to maine. lee continues to be a non-player, still just a 30 mile per hour storm but look what maria did, back up to a category 5, 160 miles per hour and slowly moving to the west-northwest. the red is the fastest winds, the orange hurricane, the yellow that's going to be storm winds. look at the red go right over the eastern third, if you will, of puerto rico. major damage there tomorrow morning and then it does weaken and head towards the turks and caicos with at least 74 mile per hour winds. so it is going to weaken just a little bit from a category 5 to a category 4 to possibly a category 3 as it

meteorologist mike nicco is tracking what maria is doing right now. mike? >> reggie, hi, everybody. i have the live doppler animated out of san juan and you can see not only are they boarding things up and trying to batten down the hatches, they're doing it with waves of thunderstorms as outer bans are hitting san juan right now and all of puerto rico. as we look at puerto rico, they're not quite in the winds yet. the red there, those are the fastest winds. it's about 70 miles across. let's find that. that's where most of the damage is going to be. it goes right over the u.s. virgin islands. right into the western -- eastern third, i should say, of puerto rico. you can see the darker the red, that's the more densely populated areas. especially san juan in the strongest part of the storm's going to go right over that, cause significant, possibly catastrophic damage. it will weaken a little bit as it heads to turks and caicos by friday morning. and then right now, thankfully for the u.s., it's taking more of a shorp tusharp turn to the north than the west like irma did, reggie. >> oka

abc 7 meteorologist mike nicco is tracking the storms. >> yeah, it's an active atlantic. hi, everybody. let's take a look at the three storms. jose, hurricane, category 1, 24 hours ago. t lee a tropical depression. maria was just a tropical storm at the time with 65 mile per hour winds. she has taken all of our attention just about as she is now a category 3. major hurricane. just got the latest information. 125 mile per hour winds. lee is just spinning his wheels there, he's 35 miles per jose is becoming a wind and wave event for the northeast if you're trying to get that way. let's take a look, maria is about 185 miles south of the track that irma took. so you can see, martinique, dominica, guadeloupe right in the path as it becomes a 4 and then look at this, it's going to rake puerto rico. puerto rico with 150 mile per hour winds wednesday morning into the afternoon hours. and then by thursday evening into friday morning, it's going to rake the turks and caicos. they're the ones that are going to get hit twice by these two devastating storms, kristen. >> mike, we'll ke

let's get the weather where you live from meteorologist meek m nucle -- from meteorologist mike nicco. >> hi, everybody. a few showers around there around sfo and santa cruz mountains and east bay hills and up near point reyes and this will continue north and northeast as we head through the next couple of hours. our best chance is a window of about four hours from now of getting anymore of these light showers. most of the rainfall amounts have been around a couple hundreds of an inch and have been in the higher elevation. we've seen the rain come down to the lower elevations and dampen the streets and some people have grabbed the um la and that's going to be the case hover the next four hours or so. turk our attention to irma. can you see a 10-mile-per-hour drop is something positive, a little bit, but once you get up that fast, the damage is about the same, no matter how fast the winds. it's still moving to the west northwest at about 17. going to start pushing into the balm as tomorrow morning with 1660-mile-per-hour winds and then you can see hitting florida sunday morning, catego

abc 7 news meteorologist mike nicco is tracking imark. we're hearing a second storm is forming behind it. >> as if you didn't think this tropical storm season was weird enough or intense enough, we've got two storms in the atlantic. let's first focus on the big one behind me and you can see already over puerto rico, puerto rico and the virgin island, some of the thunderstorms are out ahead of that. that's the track of the latest hurricane reconnaissance plane. i think i left my voice and mouth back at lunch. 170 miles per hour. very intense system there, and as i broaden out you can see jose right behind irma. he's just a tropical storm right now so let's focus on this category 5, a devastating 185-mile-per-hour winds. 115-mile-per-hour winds wednesday morning, so tomorrow morning when it hits the virgin islands and then the turks and caicos, it will have 155-mile-per-hour winds friday morning and then the keys could take a direct hit with 145-mile-per-hour winds and then it's possible that this thing could meander over florida with wind

meteorologist mike nicco is tracking maria's path, what this all means for the u.s. mainland. mike? >> all great questions, kristen. let me start what's going on in puerto rico len work through the questions you asked. first, good news, look at the map behind me, the major flooding continues but the gauges are down from a high of 16 to about 12 of the 27 reporting, at least minor, moderate to major flooding. that continues. will continue another 24 to 48 hours. here's a look at the they're still the tropical-storm-force winds. 39 mile per hour winds in thell. see they're hitting hispaniola, now getting on to the edge of the turks and caicos. the storm has actually increased up to 120 mile her hour winds. that's what it's going to be as it sideswipes the turks and caicos to the north. they're on the outside of the storm, going to get the weaker part of the storm. for us, looks like it's going to squeeze between us and bermuda and not be an issue in the mainland other than creating dangerous surf. and possibly diverting some flights away from some areas in the atlantic. fngers crossed

abc 7 news meteorologist mike nicco has been tracking maria for many days now. where are we seeing maria go? >> starting to move away from the turks and caicos which is good, everybody. hi, everybody. the red is where the most dangerous winds are. they are pulling away from the turk and caicos. they're not necessarily heading off to the west toward the bahamas. check out what's going on right now. still a very formidable category 3. so it's a majoruresca prineer h. and a storm surge of 9 to 12 feet. so it could still cause some massive flooding in the bahamas even though the track, at least the eye, the center of it, where the most dangerous winds are, is going to stay well to the east. so flooding in the bahamas from the storm surge and from rain an issue. it's going to split the united states and bermuda, head up to where hurricane -- what's left of jose is, and then kind of sit there for a couple of days next week then it will be whisked off into the ocean. so it's going wave producer for the u.s. but we're not going take a direct hit, reggie. >> this is goin

let's check in with meteorologist mike nicco with a look at today's forecast. >> i thought we would talk about the saffir-simpson scale. it's based on storm surge and winds. when you get a category 1 you can see some of the leaves start to fall off the trees, as you get up around 74 miles per hour. as you get to a category 2 you start to lose some limbs, maybe some shingles start coming off the house, category 3 you start to break some windows, you can see the storm surge getting closer to those lower elevation houses, you start to break some of the trees off and by category 4 you can see we start to lose parts of the roof, we start to flood the houses and category 5 you could almost lose all the trees and the housing and that's probably what we're going to see out of dom inn can a whenever we get some of the video that is going to come out this morning once daylight breaks. of course, jessica is going to have that for you. back here at home remember the cool temperatures we talked about, up to 7 degrees cooler, that puts us around 59 to 53 degrees in san francisco. no need to worry abou

let's check in with mike nicco. >>> we'll start with the hurricane and then we'll get to our weather. >> i want to show what you happened during the overnight hours, something unprecedented, that seems to be the case with this hurricane season. had is the farthest west we've ever recorded a hurricane with 175 mile an hour. that's sustained winds. they would get up to 200 mile an hour winds in the is going to be a devastate, life-changing, possibly island rearranging storm as it moves right over the islands, the british and u.s. virgin islands. and if there's a little bit of silver lining at least it's going to move to the north of dominican republic, puerto rico and cuba because the strongest part of the storm is in the northern part of the storm as it moves off to the west. you can see by sunday now it's looking like sunday overnight in monday it could be moving right between cuba and florida bearing down on the keys. that's just not good. all right. here's a look at what's coming back at home on the other side. letter able today. little bill cooler. chance the lie showers and our co

. >>> now your accuweather forecast with mike nicco. >> have you ever wondered what 185 mile per hours can do? even if you haven't, you will be amazed and saddened by what you're seeing right here, nasa released startling before and after photos of irma's impact on several caribbean island. it basically turned the islands from green to brown. now, nasa officials say there are a number of reasons for this including green vegetation being ripped away by those constant beating winds, leaving the images of bare ground. isn't that just amazing? and i know there are no -- i don't know if there's no flights, but i know for sure there are no boats going there. they depend so much on tourism and none of the cruise boats can get there because there's nothing to see, nothing to do, they have to clean up. it's a real catch-22 for those folks right now. i want to talk about us and the 3030 rule. thunderstorm lightning safety. if you see lightning kound, less than 30 seconds seek shelter and wait inside 30 minutes after you see the last bolt of lightning or clap of thunder. pretty much all of us in

mike nicco tracking irma as it slowly loses strength, he is at the weather desk with a quick update on irma as well as weather here in the bay area. hi, mike. >> jessica, hi, everybody. great news, irma continues to unwind as jessica mentioned, it is a tropical depression now and it's got winds of around 35 miles per hour but you can see on the radar there that it's bringing more rain but it's lighter intensity to more areas from the ohio river valley all the way down into the mississippi river valley to the carolinas to the outer banks there of north carolina. even some thunderstorms over the florida peninsula. let's see where the track is going to go and look at the rain shield that's going to be very broken. so the winds are less of an issue, the rain is less of an issue, in fact, there is no flash flood watches, no real wind advisories expect for gusty winds through tennessee for the better part of today but i don't expect a lot of damage. >> cleanup just beginning with irma, but the country still dealing with harvey. happens tonight dozens of celebrities will be part of a special
