meteorologist mike nicco joining me and so, mike, where is the hurricane right now? >> it's still south of the islands, at least the eye is, which is where we always look because that's where the fastest winds are. still at 130 miles per hour, barely a category 4. very potentially dangerous storm that we're hoping will follow the forecast and weaken and make a left-hand turn. i want to show you it's been raining for nearly 24 hours straight in helio from 4:00 yesterday to 4:00 this morning. it was raining an inch per hour already. look at that, 12 inches of rain. and the winds, let's talk about that real quick. you can see they're offshore, the yellow the tropical storm force winds creeping so much closer to the big island, about 30 miles out. as we get deeper into this system my concern is going to be more with the flooding from the rain than from the winds because here you go, watch the dramatic left-hand turn. we just missed it. i'll show it to you when we come back and the bulk of the winds will stay offshore but the rain, flooding is on the way. we'll talk more

let's check in with mike nicco with a look at the conditions. mike? >> hi, everybody. unfortunately what came to fruition is what we talked about yesterday. the winds did pick up, the humidity levels did a lot of t jeopardy. you could see all that area in red from the sierra, up towards shasta and all the way down into mendocino counties we have a high fire danger through the evening as winds gust up to 65 miles per hour in the sierra, about 25 to 35 in the higher elevations around mendocino, and that's why we could have rapid irregular fires spreading due to this. now, let's take a look at what's going on as far as our current conditions and we have wind gusts up to 27 miles per hour, a little better in the ranch fire, but look at the temperatures in the mid 80s and humidity in the 20s. see the green right there? that is smoke that live doppler 7 is picking up. that's how thick it is, but notice the winds do start to taper, so we do have some good news for a couple of days before another heat wave. more on that coming up. here's deon. >> thanks. >>> now a grass fire i

let's check in with mike nicco. >> hi, everybody. san jose, the south bay along with our inland east bay neighborhoods that could have poor air quality like we did yesterday. all of us in the moderate category so far on this sixth summer spare the air day. here's the way it breaks down, waking up temperatures pretty much the same, mid 50s to 60 degrees under cloudy conditions. it's mainly confined to the coast if you can find it there. as we head into the afternoon hours, temperatures surging into the upper 90s, 80 around the bay, 60 at the coast. >> taking a look at the roads this morning, a new traffic alert to talk about. northbound 880 before fremont boulevard reports of a crash and a vehicle went offer the roadway and flipped over, possibly starting to catch fire as well. the two right lanes are blocked right now and a little bit of confusion on whether that was on the southbound or northbound side. i believe it is northbound, but we definitely have onlookers southbound. we'll have an update in a few minutes. everyone else still

meteorologist mike nicco joining us now. you were saying after it makes its way across the island, it will make the sharp left-hand turn. >> unprecedented almost 90 degree turn as it bumps into maui and bounces off and heads to the west. here is what happens over the last 24 hours. remember, it was a category four. you can see it's not quite as symmetrical. that's why it's losing some of its power. still a category 2 with 110-mile-per-hour winds. it's going to continue to weaken. during the overnight hours and in the morning it passes closest to maui. there's the dramatic left-hand turn. it continues to weaken as it passes kauai saturday night, sunday morning and then it's out of there. there will still be rain and scattered showers which could aggravate the flooding. isolated areas could reach noorly three to four feet of rain. winds will cause power outages, but not much damage other than trees, and the waves can be around 15 feet. look where they're going to be. they come into during the evening and overnight hours. that'
