this is the "cbs morning news" for thursday, july 25th, 2013. good morning. food to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, this morning it's unclear what caused a passenger plane to jump the tracks in northwestern spain. local officials say at least 77 people were killed. more than 100 others were injured. the eight-car train derailed on a sharp curve near the city of santiago decompostela before sunset yesterday. the derailment was so violent that rail cars were thrown on top of each other. there were 218 passengers on board and many of them were trapped in the wreckage. alphonso van marsh has more. >> reporter: firefighters doused a smoking train car shortly after the derailment in northwestern spain. rescuers rushed to the crash that happened just before 9:00 p.m. wednesday on a curvy stretch of track by the city of sant santee yago. the eight-car train was traveling from madrid. this man says, i heard an explosion and when i arrived, one of the carriages was already over the road that comes out from over there. investigators spent the night combing through toppled rail cars

ohh. ♪ is folgers in your cup >>mark: welcome back to the kron4 morning news. this morning. in richmond. nearly half of the home mortgages are under water. an estimated 46 now the city has come up with a plan which it says will help struggling homeowners day and their houses. on the steps of city hall, the mayor and supporters announced a plan for the city to buy mortgages from after banks. both current and delinquent . the city would buy the loan at fair market value. and allow the homeowner to refiance. the city says, if the banks do not agree to the plan, the city can take the action by using its eminent doman powers. in all, the city of richmond wants to buy 626- underwater loans with the intention of adding more homes, if the plan is successful. they believe the action will help to keep neighborhoods stable. those against the plan say, it could make borrowing more expensive for the entire community. richmond would be the first city in the nation to take on local principal reduction. they're coordinated, appear to be athletic, and entertain the crowd at spor

alex savage, ktvu channel 2 morning news. >>> an early morning fire has destroyed a home in san jose.hey were able to save the woman but nearly hundred rescued cats did not survive. janine de la vega tells us how the woman's dog alerted her to the flames, janine? >> reporter: firefighters said if it had not been for her dog she would not have been a live and they are -- alive and you can see some damage in front of her home, that right here is in south san jose and it is a cat kennel that is completely charred and burned. the fire happened in the back of the house but dozens of dead cats are still inside that house. the woman called 911 at 1:45 from the home which is santa theresa and firefighters say when they arrived, the fire was in back of the house in a bedroom and they had to cut through a gate to rescue the woman who they say they found her in a fetal position with smoke blowing over her. she rescues a cat operation they suffocated in the fire and only 5 or 6 survived. >> i was so careful, it was my worst nightmare. at least i had my cell phone with me, i keep it with me all th
