didn't see major cyber attacks or attempts for foreign interference, they're there all the time, mr. krebs just called it another tuesday on the internet. why was it, were we wrong about estimating the seriousness of the foreign threat. whether it's russia, china or iran? were there other things that you were doing and were we paying attention as opposed to 2016? >> i think one of the lessons we learned from 2016, you've got the threat landscape, but known vulnerabilities so we really tried to focus on the past three years, trying to shore up the vulnerabilities and working with the thousands of election jurisdictions in this country to offer them and partner with them to ensure that, one, as you heard chris say, install paper ballot backups. and 80% of states in 2016, almost 95% of the vote was stacked up by paper ballots last month. so, it's that capacity building of trying to shore up and the other vulnerabilities, whether it's in the voter bases and working with their infrastructure as well and working with the campaigns, making sure their e-mail protections and the good cyber hygiene

mr. krebs who is now suing the attorney and the campaign joins now. i appreciate it. i want to get your reaction to the supreme court ruling rejecting pennsylvania republicans attempt to block the certification of the commonwealth's results. what do you make of the findings? >> i thought that it was beautiful ins it simplicity. one line, right. what everybody expected. it is just one more nail in the coffin, i think, of the continued efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. >> as a republican do you think it would make a difference for other members of the party who have been supporting the president's baseless claims, at least publicly about election fraud and were holding out that somehow the results would be overturned. do you think the supreme court ruling is a turning point or is the turning point when the president actually leaves? >> it is hard to say. i think that there has been a coordinated campaign to intimidate and silence republican officials across the country. look at what is happening down in georgia. the lieutenant governor a

hell it's talking about and is spending more time playing politics -- at least as it applies to mr. krebs securing the nation? your thoughts. >> i think it's time for a whole new team across the board, lou. there's no explanation for the way the fbi has treated witnesses, i mean, good american citizens who have been brave enough to come forward with direct evidence of things like thousands of ballots moving from one state to another in the middle of the night to do what is called backfilling into the machines so that they can perpetrate their fraud because president trump won so many votes, he blew up their algorithm. the american people blew up the algorithm they created before the election to shave votes from biden and give them to trump. and we're now seeing direct evidence of that happening in multiple counties, in multiple states, and we know it happened across the country. you'd have to be a damn fool and abjectly stupid not to see what happens here for anybody who's willing to look at the real evidence. i've uploaded a ton of it on our web site at defending the republic.org. and tw

and then to watch mr. krebse former had of cisa, say it was a perfectly -- the most secure election in american history, it's absurd. as we are watching u.s. military secrets of all kinds, fortune 500 companies under assault and no one knows what to do about it. in effect, right now if russia is the principal actor here, the enemy is in control of the u.s. government. >> right. remember what happened in july of 2016 according to documents declassified by dni john ratcliffe. john brennan briefed barack obama in july 2016 that the russians were aware of hillary clinton's plan to vilify trump as a russian agent. and, again, the russians were aware of that, the russians were aware that the the fbi played along. the russians were also aware that john brennan used that as the basis for husband intelligence community assessment for at least four years. foreign add very sauers have noun that our intelligence services are not serious. it's not a deep state, it's a clown show. and that's whew our adversaries are taking ad

mr. krebsrector of -- i think that is the acronym how it is pronounced. >> most people know you as the guy that is fired for saying this election was quote the most secure in american history. what leads you to say it is the most secure in american history? how do you know? >> well, we have been working to secure this election for four years. we have been working with all 50 states, thousands of jurisdictions working with the entirety of the intelligence community, the department of defense, we worked to improve and secure the system and we just have a lot of confidence based on that work, based on the relationships and based on honestly the threats that we saw emerge and able to knockdown, there was no foreign interference with this election. >> stephen: but there were, we saw threats emerge and knock them down, can you tell us what the threats were you knocked down? >> yes. so about, i think around october 22nd or so the iranians actually sent some e-mails around, you might remember that were

we heard mr. krebs. you showed the clip from him and his testimony, that really, the ultimate aim here is to try to delegitimize an election and have people not believe in the system. and we know that elections are absolutely fundamental to our democratic republic. people have to trust an election. they have to understand that their candidate either won or lost. and then there is a peaceful transfer of power. and when you have a president of the united states making the kinds of statements that president trump is making, we've seen people make those kinds of statements before. they tend to be authoritarians who want to, basically, dismantle -- if there's a democratic government there to begin with -- to dismantle that and instill themselves in an autocratic government. this is scary. this is dangerous. and we have to speak out against this. >> so, what do you think is happening? i mean, you know, senator rand paul should know better, yet he's been a real leader on this issue. and then republican senator

he went into details of mr. krebs. this is the most secured election and he went through four of the most contested states by trump with the march jigin s of victory. being this specific and laying it out and despite the feedback that he's preaching to a choir in terms of listening to this was worth it. >> today is the date they want to set the record straight. this is a three-act play. today was confirmed. january 6th it gets certified by the congress. january 20th it the finale. to michael's point, i don't know if they are reaching the trump base. today was the day to send out the facts. i am guessing his inaugural speech will be different. >> michael, i do think that as he has in prior statements, he's been calm and measured. he's never been passion about his frustration here but he's synced. it was a decision made to make this synced. >> maybe it is not complicated. frankly if you take a look at where we have been on election day, there is anonymity in the court to look at this. what i thought was compelling part o

mr. donald trump, probably cornered himself very badly when he decided months ago to raise the issue that the upcoming election would be fraudulent, totally illegal. on that, chris krebss up a more perfect election process than ever. basically, 98% of all ballots are double checked by paper ballot. now we are after the facts. mr. trump has provoked the legal system with over 40 lawsuits, 30 of them have been thrown out. what this sets up for us here in is the perfect storm for donald trump on his way out the door. he himself brought this thing to ahead and now has to live with the fact that our government, our legal system, our judges have now certified that all ballots were more or less honest, the election was the best ever, according to mr. krebs, and honesty and fairness. so think about this for just a moment. after the fact, if donald had never done anything, he could have swore up and down for the next 100 years that the election was fraudulent. now that's impossible. he by himself has provoked to the system in such a way that it has been proven without a shadow of a doubt to anybody who has got ahead on their shoulders and is a thinking, logical person, it can

mr. trump tweeted falsely that machines from dominion voting syste systems deleted millions of votes. krebs couldn't remain silent. his agency and its election security partners answered with a public statement. >> to quote from the november 12th statement that cisa and its partners put out, the november 3rd election was the most secure in american history. there is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes or changed votes or was in any way compromised. >> yeah, i stand by that. >> the president tweeted after that statement, quote, the recent statement by chris krebs on the security of the 2020 election was highly inaccurate in that there were massive inproprieties and fraud. do you remember what the president said at the end of that tweet? >> oh, i was terminated. is that -- yes, i recall that. >> were you surprised? >> i don't know if i was necessarily surprised. it's not how i wanted to go out. i think i -- the thing that upsets me the most about that is i didn't get a chance to say good-bye to my team. and i had worked with them for three and a half years in the trenches
