mr. lee need to understand it is not just the hopes of the chinese-american community that are being placed on his shoulders. it is the hope of every san francisco. it is the hope of the people i represent in district 9, the hope of the latino community, the hope of the african-american community, the hope of so many immigrants who will look to him as someone who will make sure their voices are heard, and that the doors of room 200 will be open to all san franciscans. with that, i will be supporting mr. lee. one of the questions i will pose to him as making sure that as he has been and probably will be selected by the sport, that the laws that the sport has passed, that those laws are fully implemented. one of the things that goes to the core of this question of including everyone is making sure that all san franciscans, all residents of this city, are given equal treatment. my hope is that the ed lee that is elected, if that is what happens, will provide due process rights for all san franci

i would also like to thank mr. lee. the fact that he has also put himself forward speaks highly of mr. lee. as mentioned, he was the director of purchasing, the director of the department of public works, he was the director of the human rights commission. he has worked in almost every area of san francisco government. he has overseen our capital plan. bandwidth he oversees -- he oversees the city's disaster recovery and response. this is a very important issue in district two and 10. he has worked on government efficiency and reducing the size of government. this is something that i used to do at the federal level. paul -- i will be supporting the nomination of mr. lee. in a time of budgetary restraint, it is good to know every facet of san francisco. both of these men have served the city. i would like to thank them for serving the city and county of san francisco. >> i would like to thank colleagues for engaging in this deliberation. i would like to think all of you for crossing the political aisles that exist here a

mr. lee, if we ever talk is that if you end up being appointed successor mayor, that comes along with five years, nine years'. those are the options. for the 12 months following that term, he cannot have full time employment in the city and county of san francisco because it is a good government law. it could be good to have ed lee back as city administrator year after he was mayor. maybe it would be good to have me working in human services next year. what is better than that is not having deal-making and vote- trading, and bad governments, because someone wanted a city job. we have that law for a good reason. i think we should keep it. if anything, we should possibly expand it. a year may not be long enough. two years might be better. the federal government has a similar law. i think it is five years' prohibition on work. i think perhaps we can take a look at this. it should make us want to expand our good government clause and not revert and go back. we have this deal and someone has this

then i would ask those who are trying to solidify this point -- pick mr. lee today to give us the same courtesy that we were trying to do for the consensus candidate but he administration. if not, then something else is amiss here, it is something else is amiss, but i think what that does is it spoils the very process that i think we are now engaged in. it bespeaks of unknowns that people are going to be absolutely insisted in determining how these ships of alliances occurred before our very eyes, -- how these ships -- shifts have occurred. there is partisanship and the last several hours. i think that was not the case when other candidates were put forward, with, i think, immersed -- most earnestness. president chiu: supervisor alioto-pier? supervisor alioto-pier: this is the first time that we as a body have had a conversation about in mr. mayor and the prospects of interim mayor, so the idea that there were alliances that were in place that have now shifted is a little misconstrued, considering this is the fact that this is the first time we have had this p

mr. ed lee. the supervisor elsbernd made the nomination. that is a nomination that i am here to support. as an investigator for the first whistle-blower ordinance and has served as the executive director of the human rights commission, director of city purchasing and the director of public works before he was appointed acting 2005 as a our city administrator. for the last five years, the city administrator has spearheaded measures and reforms that have reduced the size and cost of government. he has been commended the move to clinical assessment and the structure to support vehicles. he has developed and overseen the first ever 10-year capital plan to guide our priorities and infrastructure investment. he has overseen the city's disaster recovery and response efforts, something that is extremely important to the district that have been representing for the past six and a half years. he has been coordinating response and recovery. he has organist the outreach efforts to ensure that our city continues to make progress on inclusion and cultura

commissioner murase: i had a question for mr. lee. thank you for that synched presentation. you went over the tax package. i am concerned about the dependent deduction. by definition, the families of our school districts take a vintage of the dependent deduction. we are asking them to give up part of the dependent deduction to be able to fund schools at a reasonable level. is that correct? >> commissioner, i believe in certain respects that is correct. i am not totally clear what the amount of that is. i imagine this is part of the state income tax proposal. i believe that all of these are currently in place, or have recently expired. so all of these tax extensions -- they would not be, for the most part, additional tax increases right now. they were passed two years ago. they were intended to expire in two years. the proposal is that they would remain in place for another five years. we can do some research on that. commissioner murase: it is important for us as a board to be able to articulate how important revenue measures are. president mendoza: thank you. commissioner m
