our own sue serio is in myrtle beach she'll have live reports beginning tomorrow morning during goodor you are are a. here's the bottom line. the wind threat is low, rain is a moderate threat for our area and in particular down the shore and a little farther inland the highest risk out of arthur for us, however, will be rough surf and rip currents. take a look at the wind foreca forecast. you can see this system as it continues to move up the coast. during the day tomorrow afternoon. tropical storm force winds to impact sections of myrtle beach and then the bulls eye if you will hatteras could experience hurricane force winds as we move into your friday morning time frame but this system is going to stay over 200 miles away from us. so wind is going to be the lowest threat with this system. however, rainfall the first half of the day on friday. that is a concern for the fourth of july. so the later your plans, the better off you are as far as experiencing that dry weather. but the rip current risk is going to be high friday as well as most of the upcoming weekend. what about the next

the orange here, tropical storm warnings south of myrtle beach up through wilmington. but beaufort, you're being looking at hurricane warnings and mandatory evacuations for many places are in place. hatteras is not allowing anyone in or out there. highway 12 is a major concern in terms of wash-over. here's a look at the rainfall we can expect with arthur. in general, 1 to 2 inches as we head up north towards norfolk. there at the outer banks, 3 to 5 inches and certainly coastal flooding will also be an issue, particularly once the storm passes north of hatteras. the winds are going to shift in direction and they are going to become more normally atherly an looking looking a potential of flooding there. 2 to 3 inches of rain as we head into wilmington and myrtle as well. the good news is that after tomorrow morning, all of this does push out to sea and we're looking at clearing skies. but in its wake we'll see very rough seas and that is bad news for vacationers. the rip currents are up this weekend throughout the weekend. stay out of the water, if possible. >> the weat

in south carolina, right around myrtle beach, this will be active for the next 24 to 48 hours that the storm begins to push north. these are the pressure lines. you can see where that storm is, slowly turn together northeast. now it will start to turn more and go right along the coast of south carolina and north carolina, this is thursday night, or thursday morning. throughout thursday night it approaches north carolina and around the fourth of july it will likely infence tie with a hurricane and we'll continue to see this southeast east win, coastal flooding, wind damage, and maybe isolated tornadoes as the storm passes by early friday and continuing to move off friday afternoon. so not the best timing fourth of july weekend. thursday at 8:00, 80 mph winds. friday, 8:00, 85 mph winds. this includes portions of north carolina. because the storm tracking in this direction this is the wind direction. you get it coming in from the south an northeast. that's why we'll see coastal flooding here as well as inland flooding and very gusting wind as you see hurrican-force winds along the coast.

where the storm becomes a category 1 hurricane, somewhere in here and runs along the coast between myrtle beach. toward moorehead city. it could be further away, but it's somewhere in the middle probably. we're going to have intense winds and rain. a large area with significant rip currents. this is not a landfall problem hurricane, this is a rip current problem hurricane. we're going to lose people because they're in the ocean, swimming, happy as can be, look at the pretty waves. the problem is when the sand bar breaks, we'll get people torn out to sea. you always see it off shore, it's that lighter area of stand off shore. it comes over the sand bars and plays around here where the people are. when it breaks through here, there is an erosion issue. and the erosion takes the water with it at 35 to 45 miles per hour. and things get sucked out. if you can get here and get back around. but that's not what your body wants to do. it was to fight with because you're getting sucked out to sea. i have down ne it once, it's no fun thing. that's the issue with this and it does not map, except you'

she pick this week to take a vacation with her family, always goes to myrtle beach, beautiful condo they have there. look at it today. arthur dropped by for a visit! >> hurricane? what hurricane? since the last time we were together, can you seat umbrellas on the beach there? they're still setting up the umbrellas, and setting up beach chairs. but the thing that you can't see because that is little bit further up the beach, put the red flags out for no swimming. so, that's the deal. because there is a hurricane, 170 miles off shore. outer bands, winds whipping up every once in a while, we'll have a lull, get some rain, then have a lull, and that's the way it goes with hurricanes. you get the bands of rain and wind. and then we expect this out of tonight. for us the fourth of july should be fine. cancelling fireworks displays at the jersey shore, delaware beaches, but the bigotries being there, here, the dangerous rip currents, been talking about it all morning long. so if you want to sit on the beach, that's okay, but you're not supposed to be in the water while things are so dangerous.

it could be all the way on shore here in myrtle or wilmington or it could be offshore. as the storm gets closer, the cone will be smaller and smaller. nags head approach would be about 60 miles per hour. here we go. when the storm is here, there's the onshore flow. there's the onshore flow and it's the rip current issue, the waves go over the sand bars. as the waves go over the sandbars, the water builds up on the shore. it's a break in the sandbar. if you're in that area, you're going to get sucked right out to sea. those are the high spots in the sand. the water comes around and gets shoved out in one spot. you can't be there. in fact, you really shouldn't be in the water at all this weekend. without a surfboard and life jacket. everyone needs to have a life jacket on if you're going to approach the water this weekend. the surf is going to be 6 to 10 feet. >> keep a close eye on it. i'll be here the fourth of july. chad myers, thank you so much. >>> to wall street we go with the dow flirting with an all-time high. as we're watching the numbers, and here they are for y

all the way from jacksonville, into myrtle beach and into north carolina itself. as it moves farther to the north, this storm will continue and even put some wave action into probably new england and into maine and boston as it continues to move up. this is a shot from space. pretty cool picture there from tropical storm arthur. cool unless you are underneath it and this would be the peninsula right there. these outer bands getting to the florida coast right now. it gets bigger tonight, turns into a hurricane tonight and tomorrow. that's when it gets to the 85-mile-per-hour hurricane force as it gets very close to north carolina. >> you said rip tides. you talked about currents, winds. give us an idea about the biggest concern with this storm. >> it is without a doubt in my mind it's when the water gets pushed up into these koefs. what you have along here, you'll have the sand bars and they are only out maybe 100 yards, but the water washes over the sand bars. all of a sudden, one of those sand bars breaks and when the sandbar breaks in one spot, all of that water

we have tropical storm warnings up from elizabeth city, north carolina, all the way down through myrtle beach. beyond that, farther north -- south, rather, we have tropical storm watches. what this mean is winds in excess of 39 miles per hour or greater, sustained. that's what we can expect. but we do have an area that's under a hurricane watch. here it is. this once again extending from elizabeth city all along the outer banks, including cape hatteras down through beaufort, north carolina. certainly could see hurricane-force winds likely, at least hurricane-force gusts. by the way, if arthur does become a hurricane, as it's expected, it would be the first to make a u.s. landfall in two years. so right now a lot of preparations under way here in north carolina. the govern has already declared states of emergency for 25 counties. we'll keep you updated, joy. >> all right, julie. thanks so much. appreciate it. >>> and coming up, the immigration debate boils over when angry protesters try to block families from being moved into their town. >>> then, on the 50th anniversary of president joh

and if it does it will be somewhere through here and this entire area, this entire beach zone from myrtle all of the way up to moorhead city will be scoured with six to ten-foot waves and also the beach erosion and the biggest threat that i see in this entire storm will be those rip currents trying pull people out into the ocean as the water comes on to the shore and then washes people back after the shore. we have a pretty good idea of where this storm will go, jim. all of the models are really, really, they're bunched together and as we go through the rest of the day, as the water comes over the top of the sand bars and the water gets pushed out here from the rip currents and the rip tides and then it gets pushed right out through the sand bars and that's where people get caught and if you're in that red zone that's when you get pushed back out into the ocean. so swim to shore if you can and work your way back in, but it's a very tough thing to do when you're out there, and i've been caught in one in my life and your body wants to fight that current and you have to think about it. it's
