several days of delays last month left new jersey transit commuters frustrated. some suggesting a new $14 billion hudson river tunnel is the solution. amtrak operates the century old tunnel. testifying before new jersey senate committee amtrak's vice president for the northeast corridor showed equipment from the 1930s still being used and without warning, immediate action the commuters may face more delays. >> issues like the recent disruptions are not likely to be entirely preventible. in fact, may increase over time until the tunnel can be renewed and modernized. >> new jersey state senator robert gordon says the fet government is willing to pay for 80% of the cost of a new tunnel. >>> new at six, for those who take the bus and not the train, there are big changes coming to the port authority bus terminal. the agency wants to speed up the commute by devoting certain operators. for example, new jersey transit will consolidate to one floor instead of several floors. commuters should expect that right after labor day. 30% of departure gate assignments will change.
