by 11:00 p.m., things finally are beginning to quiet down in the north bay. elsewhere, we're still dealing with heavy rain from the east bay, the peninsula to the south bay. early tomorrow morning, 2:00 a.m., here is the back edge of that atmospheric river. but even early tomorrow morning, 5:00 a.m. a.m., some scattered showers, but the heaviest of the rainfall it will be over. here is what we're thinking about additional in terms of on top of what we have already seen later on this evening. in the north bay, 1.5 inches of additional rainfall coming our -- our way. /floodwaters in the north bay and in the santa cruz mountains for the threat of debris flows. we have numerous flood advisories across the region because the creek flooding and street flooding. the wind advisory getting trimmed back from the north bay but still ever out we see and winds gusting over 30 miles an hour. early tomorrow morning the winds are going to back off and tomorrow is just a breezy day. it is not windy. high surf warning begins at 11 p.m. tonight, 20 to 30 foot breakers through tu

north bay is really gotten hit. east bay peninsula, south bay. all going to get a super-good soaking. we're already seeing plenty of storm damage. the tree snapping at the bas. toppling over. parts of santa rose seeing major flooding. like that right there. roads were turned into rivers. cars partially submerged. some neighborhoods crews had to use machines to clear out debris from under way. >> check it out. sent in, dangerous drive. intersections flooded. this is the downtown area. some roads urnds two feet of water and impassable. we have team coverage of the storm moving from the north bay to the south bay. let's start with meteorologist. what are reseeing the intensity moving to the south bay? >> the real issue with the video is the storm that just hit the brakes across the north bay. and storm ranger radar from giving the high definition view of the most intense rain band. over to na ta county and now moving down the peninsula. obviously some of that is spilling over to the stadium. one two punch of winds and rain. heavy rain half-moon bay.

in the north bay, it's 37 and 101. think of the ring around san pablo bay and towards southern marin. that's where we've got some of the best rain and that does extend into napa. most of the rest of sonoma thankfully is not getting rained on. that's where we saw some of our heaviest totals. for the rest of the morning we will keep it like this. we will chase showers on high def doppler but it will be a similar story to what i showed you until we are passed about 9:00 in the morning. there might be a few scattered showers that will hang on as we go through later hours but that should be about it. that's a quick update. we'll go into more details including the records we shattered for rainfall. more on that later. guys, back to you. see you in a bit. >>> i am anne makovec at the live news desk. we have school closures to tell you about because of flooding today all in sonoma. as darren mentioned they have seen many inches of rain. we are talking having trouble getting to and from school and also potential damage to school

through 9:00 and noon, you have heavy rain and a cold front still in the north bay. e second half of the day and evening for the east and south bay. watching for flooding potential, moderate to high risk for the bird scar areas -- for the burn scar areas of previous wildfires, so a nasty day, especially for football, liz. liz: it will be. thank you. people in the north bay are getting ready for fires and flooding. first responders getting ready for anything that comes up, really hoping for the best. our reporter has the story from north bay. >> carry. >> julie and her son have no time to lose. >> really worried about tonight. >> they are filling as many sandbags as their car can carry ahead of the forecasted atmospheric river. flooding is the biggest concern at julie's new house. >> we will do the best we can and try to minimize the damage. >> this free sandbag station was busy. homeowners like rich just trying to be proactive. >> it sure looks like people are saying is coming, so i thought it would be safe -- i thought i would be safe this time. >> this fire departme

by 4:00 this has shifted out of north bay, but we are still looking at heavy rain in the north bay. 00 we have some downpours from livermore to san jose, and right on through 11:00 , hasn't let up yet in the livermore valley or around half moon bay. that is why we are looking at the santa cruz mountains to pick up perhaps six inches of rain. if you are downslope from those burn scar areas, you have a moderate to high risk of some of that debris flow and mudslides. you can see half moon bay, over four inches. 5.4 estimates in santa rosa. over four inches in livermore. and we have not even got going yet for the heavy rain there. as we look at the wind, it is going to be a gusty day throughout the midday hour. this is 1:00. we have winds over 40 miles an hour. that is when you have the saturated soil and the possibility of some tree limbs coming down, and the flooding on the roadways. we are already looking at that flooding in sonoma county. later tonight that area of low pressure generating high surf warnings, not only through monday but into tuesday, with breakers up to 30 feet. so, e

yes, specifically for the north bay and san francisco peninsula. we're already tracking widespread light, rain. >> right now. throughout most of the bay area coast line drying out for the east bay and south bay. but just to our east. we are looking at rain and snow showers right now. south lake tahoe a little bit drier. but this atmospheric river going to have a warmer core to it because it is not only tapping into a storm, but it is getting subtropical plumes of moisture out of hawaii. and because of that, not really tracking as high of snow totals specifically at the lake level elevations above 8,000 feet could see upwards of 5 feet of snow. but really it's the lower elevations that's going to notice more rain then snow as i fast forward through sunday morning and sunday afternoon even during the evening hours could see pockets of some pretty heavy downpours as the atmospheric river impacts the sierra, but the one thing we need to watch out for gusty winds as well. there is a winter storm warning going to go into effect starting 5 o'clock sunday e

in the santa cruz mountains, we have the czu complex burn scar, all these burn scar's in the north bay. that's where we could get debris flows and month size. we also have a wind advisory in effect for the entire bay area. sustained wind will be 15 to 20 miles per hour with gusts up to around 45 miles per hour, especially midday through the will be very windin, going to wilson walker in santa rosa, where fire crews are concerned about the effect of that rain on the north bay burn scar's. >> reporter: here on the eastern edge of santa rosa, where they have issued a flood warning for the burn scar of the glass fire, that is really the only sort of flood or slight concern in the north bay. they say the ground has plenty of room to soak up plenty of water. they aren't really worried about slides or debris flow outside, but let us take you back to 2015, where there was a sort of unique fear and concern that comes out of a drought. you are looking at lake mcclure in 2015, where when we walked around back then, the dust came up from the ground as he walked around the desiccated soil. the conc

that is heavy rain over the north bay already. r will be aimed at northern california at that point, but like a fire hose being drifted down the coast, it will move farther and farther down into the bay area as we head through sunday. heaviest rain comes in sunday afternoon. mid to late afternoon, it will rain heavily across the entire bay area, and continues into the early overnight hours on sunday. that makes its way steadily to the south as we head into monday morning, but still lingering off and on showers in the forecast for monday as well. how much are we talking about? let's added up. this is commuter model data, but it agrees well with what the weather addiction center has been saying. over 1.25 inches for san jose, which could approach 2 inches by the time all is said and done him about widespread amounts of 3 to 5 inches of rain in the santa cruz mountains. we are talking about 4 to 8 inches of rain for the north bay. that is why we have the flash flood watch in effect for the north bay and santa cruz mountains. if you ar

but sunday morning, it's just going to hover big bull's eye targeting the north bay. then it's eventually going to shift becoming more widespread by early sunday afternoon. not just for the san francisco peninsula. but then for the east bay by sunday night. it's going to make its presence known for those of you in the south bay monday morning during the overnight hours. the bulk of that atmospheric river starts to shift to the south and east. so you're going to begin your drying trend. for those of you in the north bay for the rest of the bay area still tracking moderate downpours. and it's just going to sit and linger by around sunrise monday morning for those of you in the south bay and that's going to increase your rain totals. but it will negatively impact your monday morning commute. so just keep that in mind. we are expecting ponding dangerous slick road conditions of you don't need to be outside for your sunday. stay indoors. just hunker down in place monday by midmorning that river finally exits the bay area and we are tracking rain totals. one to 3 inches for

mainly in the north bay you notice six o'clock.arts to slide into the east bay and the peninsula 7 o'clock. it continues to move east spreading towards the south bay and then by 8 o'clock mostly dry for everyone. there's still could be pockets of showers, but it'll be mainly in the south bay that point and then everything dries out overnight into tomorrow. we'll be a very chilly start. so rainfall estimates again less than a tenth of an inch for most everyone maybe a little bit more in san francisco and half moon bay closer to a quarter of an inch. so we want a little bit of rain because it will help put a dent in the deficit which you just saw earlier. there's also winter weather advisory in effect from tonight through tomorrow morning. so above 5500 feet we could get up to six inches of snow. be careful if you're driving to and from the sierra you may want to hold off until tomorrow if you can so temperatures right now are on the chili side mostly in the 50s and 60 san francisco 58 oakland 62, san jose mildred 68, but look at tha

we are talking north bay mountains, east bay hills and valleys under red flag warning due to low relative humidity values as well as those strong winds. we are watching winds as we head through today. you can see it's going to be a cool one, chillier temperatures, upper 60s to low 70s around the bay. >> thank you. >>> public safety power shut offs underway in northern california. a map shows areas affected marked with purple triangles. >> justin andrews is live in st. helena. this could be affect 32 counties across northern california. >> reporter: absolutely. some 44,000 customers in the area. the good news this morning, take a look, yes, the lights are still on here. we talk about these situations though because these shut offs happen when conditions are like mary mentioned, dry and windy. you see the wind blowing through the leaves. this is an effort to reduce wildfire risk from pge's equipment. the electric company may cut off power to customers in alameda, contra costa, napa, solano, sonoma. pge likely sent you notices about this. here is how officials say you can prepare. number one

we are also seeing it in the north bay, it has been raining in the north bay for several hours. if you are on 101 through marin or sonoma, plan on good rain and wet roads. but this is now where the bulls eye it. you can see rain coming across the bay. when you look at this view, it is the most telling one of the day. you are watching sheets of rain coming down at times along the bay bridge. that is it. you see the city here. there is oakland. we have a really good band of rain on top it. we are seeing heavier rain here. it is raining along the 101 and along the east bay shoreline. we have not gotten it in san jose but it is coming. here we are at 6:30. there is 10:00. when we get past 11:00 we get a break from the friday storm. then we need to take a breather and get ready. sunday's storm looks more impressive now than it did yesterday. now just from looking at the bay bridge, how many issues do you have out there. >> it is a laundry list of problems. check this out. it is slick out there this morning. be extra careful. it is going to be like this for most of the morning commute

same thing for the north bay burn scars. almost 4 inches of rain indicated by the forecast models as we head into the next couple of days. we aren't done with the rain chances. more rain friday, at an atmospheric river has our way sunday and monday, with even heavier rain, 1 to 2 inches across the whole bay area in that timeframe. the camera is shaking around as the wind picks up. low to mid 60s, low to mid 50s by early tomorrow morning. then they will warm back up to the low to mid 60s for most of us. upper 50s on the coast. temperatures in the north bay topping at around 60 degrees. temperatures don't change much. maybe if you peeks of sunshine thursday, and more rain friday, and the heaviest rain in store for everybody sunday and monday of next week, tapering off to some showers by tuesday. we will check the rain the rest of this evening, and we will give you another update coming up at 11:00. >> thank you, paul. >>> tonight, san jose my home to the happiest employees in the country, and we will tell you where they work.

not as windy for the north bay. are up to 70 degrees after staying in the 50s in ukiah yesterday. we are watching the reservoir levels rise. let me show you the numbers and what it looked like before all of the rain we had for east bay mud. it was at 67% capacity, but we were doing bad in the south bay. only 18% of the capacity, and guadalupe at 18%. we have seen a rise in the reservoir levels, and the most in the north bay with all of the rain, and it was 17% and now at half capacity. in the north bay, it's better than what we were seeing. it does look like we will take a break from the rain for the next several days, and then next week we will see another chance of a pretty good amount of rain moving in starting on monday. as we go into the out look for the next two weeks, some of the highest chances of getting more measurable rain will be across northern california. that's looking pretty good. we will be watching that on monday. we have a chance to let all of the water soak in, and, boy, was it a lot. we will see

we come to the north bay where there has been better rain. y taking that drive, start to work your way across that northern edge of san pablo bay. you will have the windshield wipers going if that is part of your drive. on futurecast, there is good news for later in the morning. watch the showers. there is an organized pattern to this. it is going to come to an end by late morning. it hangs on in the south bay but later we get to the morning, the drier it gets. here we are getting to the 7 hour. there is not a lot showing up. we finally get a more meaningful break and an end by the time we get to the late morning, 9:00 or 10:00 today. you will see clearing. high surf advisory started last night and stays in effect through tomorrow. i know it might seem silly to talk about that but it is probably now looking ahead the one item on the list that is high risk still. anybody considering going near the beaches today, be careful. current numbers are identical wherever you go. mid 50s just about everywhere. to show you where we go for daytime highs, t

now we're looking like we're going to have a pretty significant atmospheric river impacting the north bay and so for us here locally where i is there going to be on the glass fire burn scar. now the bay area is looking forward to the next round of storms in san francisco, the public utilities commission spent the day checking catch basins, many now filled with water or covered with debris. they're asking residents to pitch in and clear the basins. to prevent localized flooding. it's really just about scraping off those leaves that can accumulate or other debris that can accumulate on the door brace that storm drains that keep them from, um, draining properly. so, yeah, we have a great, uh. um public participation program in that our residents are very passionate about keeping the streets clean the utility sending out trucks like this to vacuum out the catch basins to make sure that when they are clear they're able to handle the coming storm. the puc, saying its staffing up. to get ready for this weekend. we have strike teams, which are employees with rakes that clean the debris on top of

futurecast does show some showers running into the coast north of us, but for the bay area, spotty showersough midday in the north of the golden gate. they are possible anywhere, but more concentrated farther north. an area of heavy rain will work its way and after the sun goes down tomorrow evening. but this is not the full- fledged heavy rain that arrives sunday morning. for the northern half of the bay area, the heaviest rain will be falling right on you through midday on sunday, then it gradually starts to work farther and farther to the south. by the time we get into sunday afternoon and evening, heavy rain falling across the whole bay area, adding up more and more, because it will be parked in place for hours on end. it is going to be sloppy for the niners game in santa clara, rainy and windy. the back edge will work its way north to south sunday night. it moves out before the sun comes up on monday, but still lingering often done showers are likely as we head through monday, and even into tuesday. that is icing on top of the main cake of heavy rain make it sunday and sunday night. w
