oakland north 10 miles an hour. not as many, mount diablo up over 2000 feet. the up around 40 miles an hour. again, you're not noticing the winds. is at the higher elevations. so with the wind streaks i just pointed out in these guys, those are going northeast and are at about 3500 feet. watch what happens when i drop the wind streaks down to the surface. that's the wind you are experiencing, that's the fog i showed you with surface winds. that is ushering in a cooler air pattern. aloft on the peaks you still have air going this way. i had a couple people in a couple of stories talking about where is the wind in napa? what if they shut the power off? because a big winds and higher elevation, which we talked about since sunday night. a lot of folks, you won't even notice winds but some of these red flag warning days. nonetheless, it's dangerous. there is the difference. look at how much cooler it is. that is the big story in my mind, much much clear whether around the bay area. that helps firefighters, that helps everybody. it helps higher quality too. the fore

air for concord, walnut creek, and danville and around the bay, moderate along oakland and san francisco and across the northbay, you can see the purple dots that indicates the unhealthy air from novato and for petaluma. because of that unhealthy air, that "spare the air" alert is in effect and will likely get extended as we look to the rest of the week. we are not seeing a lot of change. that pacific high is building all week and the heat dome returns and temperatures will skyrocket by the weekend to the upper 90s, to triple digit heat inland. here is the satellite what you can expect for the future cast and we are looking at that clearing for most of us except for the coast and that will be the same case as we look to tomorrow. for the south bay, looking at 83 for san jose and he denied for morgan newell and for the east bay, upper 80s for pleasant hill and concord, and around the bay, mid 60s in san francisco, mid-70s in oakland and up to the mid-80s in the north bay. here's the extended forecast temperatures are similar, to continue with the haziness and smoke wednesday, thursday and then temperatures wi

now oakland today still reaching 85 and 90 in san jose. for the north bay we're reaching up to 92 in napa and 100 in ukiah. we're still in this very dry weather pattern as this high pressure remains across the region. you can see the fog starting to move from the south to north into the bay area. and so this high pressure will keep the smoke close to the surface over the next few days but also giving us hot weather until it gradually fades heading into the weekend and that's when our temperatures start to come back into the 80s. we know the fires have been so intense. you've been able to see this from space and so a lot of those nasa satellites picking up on all of the complexes of fires that we have burning across the state and that smoke that's been burning, blowing across the bay area. look at our air quality, still really bad for parts of the north bay, unhealthy for the rest of the bay area and even going into the week. it's still going to be very unhealthy and taking a look at our temperatures for the inland areas we're in the upper 90s today. unf

temperatures are going to be significantly cooler compared to yesterday. 86 in oakland and for the northay, in the upper 80s to even triple digit heat in sonoma. the extended forecast and we are looking at the warm to hot conditions through the week but we are eventually going to cool down for the weekend and early next week. let's check in with a look at traffic and the road closures where the fires are burning. >>> i want to look at this overview to give you an idea of all the closures in and around the areas of calistoga and other areas. parts of 128 are closed. it looks like some areas are open but again we are seeing a lot of closures in and around calistoga. crystal springs road and silverado trail are impacted. highway 12 at hy-vee on is impacted. this is a changing situation. we are seeing more between peyton road and polk street. they are open between deer park and pine street, so keep that in mind. also, we have an accident on westbound grant line and north flynn and it is blocking one lane. it is a pretty extensive backup out of tracy into the allatoona pass. we are upwards of

north of there though traffic is looking pretty good heading out of downtown oakland. through hayward. that will affect the drive going to the san mateo bridge. on the bridge itself traffic moving for the most part okay although we are seeing quite a few cars on the roadway. extra volume over to 101. the taillights headed to peninsula towards the 101 connector there on the westbound side. the 580 portion going to the dublin interchange, very busy this morning. three separate crashes one out of the livermore valley and one working your way towards the 680 connector. really slowing traffic down in and around that area. near hacienda. near dougherty. already busy anyway for the ride out of tracy for the altamont pass area. so traffic is still pretty low as you head through the portion. and over to the south bay we go. another area where we see lots of supercommuters for the morning drive. that's the commute out of gilroy into san martin and the hill. slow and go speeds. 22 miles per hour through there. the good news no crashes as you head in and around that area. let's ge
