we have the same thing in northern california, sonoma county, north bay. we get the coastal influence that makes the bay area great and cools things off. it is a predictable wind off the coast that cools the environment down, but it has the potential to pick up wind speeds and be a threat of fire spreading the -- spreading in the afternoon. we events, the offshoot of a hurricane type wind event like we saw in 2015 in the valley fire. that was the result of a system that fell apart, similar to what they saw in lahaina. you never know when everythin will come together and get ignition that leads to devastating fire. when we saw the tubbs fire as the most destructive in the state's history, it is a title you do not want. at the same time, it is a title you do not want to lose, because if you do, it means someone has gone through something more devastating, and that is what we saw with the camp fire. that is why departments like us and those who have been through these devastating fires tend to try to help one another after they have gone through this to talk

fires burning in northern california. never looks good. looks like cut with a knife out there right now in the atmosphere. but that exactly how hazy it is right now. of course, the fire danger elevated. we have those northerly winds today kicking in bringing that smoke from the fires in our direction. but it's also those northerly winds that bring us that very dry air in the bay area. we have some humidity levels dropping down into the teens and that's where we sit right now. a bit still breezy, as you look over the mountain tops in the north bay, the winds have backed off a little bit. still seeing some winds gusting to 20 miles per hour could see some higher gusts over the higher terrain. the humidity still very, very dry in the teens in some spots. but that's also going to begin to change. here's a looe at the latest forecast overnight tonight. all of a sudden those northerly winds begin to switch around. we start to see a sea breeze kicking in. and there you go. you start to see more of a westerly component to the wind as we head in to

that is because the smoke from the wildfires in northern california and oregon are expected to impactugh today. check out this footage from yesterday. there were smoky skies in emeryville and san francisco. the bay area air quality management district issued a spare the air alert. bay area district spokesperson ralph bormann says fires on the northern california/oregon border are filtering down to us, such as the smith river complex fire. it has ballooned to nearly 80,000 acres. he says even if a wildfires hundreds of miles away, it can still impact us here. a public health professor for cal state east bay says the monitors are edging right up to the unhealthy for sensitive groups. that means those with underlying health conditions will likely feel the effects of the smoke more than the general public. >>. may be warranted that you, instead of reduce your outdoor activities, stay inside, have the windows closed. if you have an air filter or an air conditioner, to start running those in the evening. gloria: and some san francisco tourists could not believe how smoky was yesterday. as f

drifting down from the fires burning in far northern california most of it elevated. it will be more of it and more of it at ground level by wednesday and thursday. a couple of days where the air quality can dip into the unhealthy for sensitive range. but then as the weather pattern shifts we can have better air quality by the end of the workweek on friday and hope it carries us into labor day weekend. look at the big picture pattern. warm inland. warm around the bay the heat dome off to our east will build closer to us on wednesday. it will peak on wednesday. like every heatwave not likely to set records and the temperatures will back down quickly. by friday, below average temperatures. we go up the next couple of days we drop into the 70s for the highs inland on friday and settle into the lower to middle 80s for labor day weekend and september. not a bad place to be. think back to last labor day weekend shattering heat records, this is better for the holiday weekend. you can see the haze on the horizon. 60s around the bay, 60 exps 70s on the warm end of things. cool

the lightning strikes sparked fires in northern california, some of the smoke will drift to the skies in the north bay tomorrow . and maybe monday or tuesday of next week. farther down-the-line but something we will continue to monitor. right now, blue skies out there. the temperatures are nice. the temperatures backed down rapidly and it will be back down to near average tomorrows. a lot of moisture in the air that does not cool down efficiently after night, the temperatures tomorrow, still a noticeable level of mugginess, close to average highs, 80s down the peninsula. temperatures in the east bay. mostly 80s. it is a nice change. 60s, 70s around the bay with a lot of 70s for the north bay. the fog, the cloud cover, more stubborn. 95 degrees. but, it is about what you would expect this time of the year. temperatures despite the clouds, sunday, monday, tuesday, associated with hillary. the temperatures are a little above average heading into early next week. we do not have any raindrop icons in the seven-day forecast at this point. there is an outside chance of a couple of showers as

some smoke from the smith river complex in northern california drifting towards us and a lot of it will be elevated, so i think the worst of our air quality will be in the moderate category tuesday and wednesday but we will keep you updated in case we sneak into the unhealthy categories. right now looking towards downtown, not seeing the fog swallowing up downtown san francisco just yet. still holding onto 70 degrees in san jose and we are only going to mid-60s by tomorrow morning, also a reflection of that moisture in the atmosphere with a more humid air mass not going down as efficiently as a dryer air mass, so we then warm up to almost exactly normal highs by the afternoon hours on tuesday, mostly 70s around the bay with 80s down the peninsula and 60s on the coast. a mix of 80s to around 90 degrees for the warmest spots inland. the hottest day is on wednesday and will not be hot around the bay but warm . mid-70s and san francisco mid-80s for oakland o wednesday but back to near normal by friday and saturday. the hottest day for the inland valleys of the north bay and th santa clara v
