police say this happened at least 250 times all over northern virginia over the course of several months. 19-year-old alexander chase, 18- year-old ricardo reynoso jr. and 18-year-old william romero from arlington face charges. >>> the news edge in virginia, a once convicted killer scheduled for release this afternoon from prison will remain behind bars. a federal appeals court ruled justin wolfe should stay in prison and the court ordered a new hearing. wolfe was convicted of arranging the murder of his marijuana supplier in 2001, but the case was overturned in 2011 by a district judge who said prince william county prosecutors held important information and evidence from defense lawyers. the judge ordered prosecutors to retry wolfe in four months or release him. last month a judge ruled prosecutors didn't meet the deadline and ordered him free, but the appeals court stayed the ruling. >> we would have preferred for it to not be stayed, but we have of reason to be hopeful. we believe judge jackson's order was correct and we're confident that that ultimately will be the decision of the c

a few showers have been across northern virginia, generally along south of i-66. we'll head toward 9:00 with temperatures still in the low 40s in town but mid-40s if not low 50s here. we'll get through the afternoon. the colder stuff east. only 43 in annapolis at noon. but 59 in orange. we're looking at temperatures this afternoon 50s in town with some 60s south and west, even warmer tomorrow. >>> good morning, everybody. i'm here in new orleans, super bowl week has begun. the baltimore ravens arrive monday afternoon to get settled into their hotel, talk with the media folks for a little bit. they got a little practice in, in the morning on monday before they left. but even after that, the fun began. thousands of ravens fans braved the freezing rain and packed baltimore's inner harbor for a sendoff party. the energy out there was just electric. the team then boarded their charter at bwi, arrived in new orleans mid afternoon and enjoyed a large police escort to the hotel. that's where we caught up with the team and the players just couldn't stop talking about the e

northern virginia, much of maryland. and it's going to the not warm up much more. that sun's energy is not heating the ground. it's going to evaporate some of that snow. right now, the windchill just in the low teens, much of the region with the wind only around 10 to 15 miles an hour. well, that snow came quickly, beginning late last night, the heaviest snows fell between about midnight and 3:00 a.m. in southern maryland and that's where they got those totals there in st. marys county, some locations over four inches, some places in far southern maryland at 5 1/2 inches. this band in the dark blue generally anywhere from 4 inches plus in southern maryland to about an inch or two around the blue ridge. generally about 1/2 inch or so around the metro area. as we go forward into friday, that's when we'll have increasing clouds, this is friday at 3:00 in the afternoon. all these areas in lavender zone of potential more accumulating snow. disease lo does look like around 3:00 p.m. 6:00 or 7:00, accumulating snow by then. 9:00 it'll again to move off to the east and qui

julie carey's in northern virginia, adam tuss in montgomery county. tracee wilkins in montgomery county. hi, julie. >> reporter: well, here in western fairfax county, seems the snowfall has tapered off. even seen much for the last 30 minutes. in fact, look up behind me in the sky. the moon is glowing through the clouds and just a while ago, as the sun was going down, we saw the sun coming through, even the snow falling, strange weather sights out here today. take a look down on the sidewalk here. you get a pretty good idea of the little bit of powdery snow out here in fairfax county. but, vdot still took this seriously. and they wanted to stay ahead of this snow that came down this afternoon. take a look at these trucks. they were cruising primarily up and down the interstates and the primary roads like this one here on lee highway. putting down a mixture of salt and sand. but again, there has been so little accumulation out here in fairfax county that the roadways that we've been seeing, the main roads have not been a big problem. still, we know, out

>> well across northern virginia, to include the other counties, we pre stage. bring our hired equipment in. about 95 percent of our snow fighting capability as we called it are hired equipment. right now we have over 800 pieces of equipment on the road through northern virginia. we bring them in early enough to load them with equipment and chemicals and pre stage them in the areas. in most areas we have applied salt on the bridges, the ramps, the overpasses and our primary roughrider routes,. >> those are the hot spots obviously. fairfax county has over 310 pieces of equipment. down in the southern part of the county, right now, frozen precipitation, but nothing is really sticking. here in lowdon as you know. >> reporter: what is the word of advice? so crews can do their job? >> the government i believe is opening late. i know the fairfax county schools i believe are two hours late. some schools are closed. if you don't have to be out, please don't. give our forces time to treat the roads and try to keep them in safe travel mode. >> thanks steve for joining us

huntington reporting light rain that's far off in areas of northern west virginia right now. so it's going to take time to saturate the air, the air just so dry right now. i expect by the time we get to 4:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, we'll be looking at freezing rain. that's what is in the pink. again, at times a little sleet mixing in. the white, the blue, purple, that is snow up to the north. around frederick, westminister, by 6:00 a.m., down to the south, mostly rain. so areas that will have it the worst, way up to the north. areas a little better down to the south. culpeper, fredericksburg staying all rain. it's freezing rain for d.c., gaithersburg and areas further north. by toon, all that is gone. it's out of here, that system. temperatures rising nicely by the afternoon. probably getting into the upper 30s to low 40s so when the next bout of precipitation comes through, it will be rain. we're at 32 right now, a little wind. windchill temperature at 25 degrees. tomorrow morning, though, right around freezing. that's what is so critical. this is not a big system for us, but

in northern montgomery county, panhandle of west virginia. all the areas in pink getting the rain freezing up on elevated surfaces. where you see the green, it's generally above freezing. that includes the district of columbia and areas in the nearby suburbs. much of northern montgomery county and parts of western howard getting that freeze rain. east of there, though, there's some snow falling and some sleet in prince george's county anne arund arundel, calvert, st. mary's county. west of there it's light rain. temperatures there are only about a degree above freezing. so only needs to drop another degree for the rain to start freezing up on tree limbs and power lines. that will happen hour by hour through 10:00 this morning of the we'll be holding near the freezing mark and above freeze after that. back in ten minute with the forecast and the seven-day outlook as we warm up later had afternoon. i'll be back. danella has traffic. >> still looking at the situation along southbound lehigh way past i-66. as you cross over the train tracks, the

worries about high water have not gone away in northern virginia, either. tonight the area is under flood warnings. chris gordon reports on high water rescues. >> reporter: this suv got stranded. the driver climbed out the window, was rescued. some of these leesburg residents waited more than six hour for the waters to recede numb for them to try to pass. >> yeah, got to be to work. >> be careful. >> i will. >> reporter: overnight the fire rescue and management department answered five calls, rescuing six people. the most dangerous rescue occurred just before 10:00 p.m. at snickersville turn pike. >> the rescueser had a stranded vehicle. before they could get boats in, the vehicle was swept into the stream, ultimately downstreamed 300, 400 yards where the rescue was affected. >> reporter: it was a life-threatening situation. >> very dangerous. you can take someone in their car, in a somewhat safe position to a very, very dangerous position and put their life at risk. >> you have debris flowing, trees, logs, that could be attacking rescuers either in boats o

metro is reporting in northern virginia. they are having some delays and having to reroute buses due to icy conditions. out in northern virginia and plan on taking a bus, might want to check ahead of time. you can check their twitter feet and online with them. also friends of mine posting on facebook saying some of their roads have not been treated as well. prince william county seeing pictures from there as well where some of those roads having too much of those situations where you might have one lane of the road that is clear and the other is not. so that's where we're getting traffic issues. single tractor thought you had a clear way and a pile of snow. for the most part here in northwest dc if you look out here at the dog park, boy, the animals sure are loving it out here this morning. i'm sure the kids are enjoying that two hour delay. they are going to have to at some point get dressed and head out to school. the best i can say is it looks like this is going to stick around for a little while. if we do get that second
