july 2nd was certainly a day of frustration for lee in northern virginia. but it still was a day of impressive assaults that nearly crashed the union line at a number of places. on july 3rd, it makes utterly no sense why lee would suddenly relinquish the offensive. the idea that james longstreet had the vision that would have secured confederate victory here, it's not in sync with the reality of what was on the ground. when you stand in front of the lee monument, the next thing you need to do is the fact that the interpretive markers there don't really explain where the troops were. it appears that he simply lined them up along one extensive front, as portrayed in the gettysburg movie. that's not the case. 90% of the people who come to gettysburg knows where the division was actually formed. it's not in front of the lee monument. it's off to the right in front of the spangler house. the troops were concealed for most of the day. the point being is this. r.e. lee took great care on july the 3rd to try to ensure that that attack would succeed. as i said yeste

you are practicing law in northern virginia. why write a book? >> i had a deep interest in the civil war. as i have told many people, my dad was born in 1901 and a little town in southern tennessee on the alabama border and grew up with confederate veterans. i have always had a deep interest in the civil war. when i was a kid, we would drive around to the battlefield. of course, that was before they were as well-developed as they are now. that was a couple of centuries ago, before you were born. [laughter] in any event, in the 1970's, i was a federal prosecutor in washington. i decided i needed to get into some other endeavor. i started to go down to the battlefields in central virginia and got fascinated with the big idylls between grant and lee in may and june of 1864, started to look for books on those battles, and there was virtually nothing. like you said, at that time, there have only been one study that was done. it looked at the official report, regimental histories, no archival work or background. it looked like there had been a whole lo

our northern virginia bureau chief, julie carey is live from the prince county courthouse. >> reporter: the teen's name is tray. they decided to make the case public. this is one of the search warrants used by police to take photos of the teen's private parts. another search warrant was pending to take more explicit photos. today, inside a courtroom, prosecutors told the judge they changed their mind about the search warrants and the photos. >> well, of course i'm relieved. i'm happy they are not going to proceed with it. >> the reaction of his aunt told a court judge, police will not take more explicit photos of the teen. earlier this month, they took their concerns to david culver. he faces child important charges for sending photos to a 15-year-old girlfriend. this was already served as investigators took photos of his private parts. a second warrant was pending to take more explicit pictures. his attorney asked the court to block the search warrant. today, an agreement. the prosecution won't use the photos taken of trey and will let the second warrant expire. >> we are very relieve
