in the past two years, seven people died in the waters off ocean beach. s ocean rescue unit saved 75 others at risk of drowning and while the agency makes public announcements, we pointed out that the 55 signs along the water's edge didn't reflect that message until now. >> nbc did their story on it, they were able to get a wider breadth of audience. it's such a high visitation area that it was really important to get this message to people who are just coming to visit for the first time. >> reporter: each year, more than 1 million travelers learn about ocean beach from sf travel, the city's most prominent travel association. when we checked the website, it warned the water was cold and advised extreme caution, but it said swimming is allowed. following our report, the park service reached out and the association has now updated its online guide to match the signs. swimming is not advised at ocean beach. >> i really want them to take away that they should not go near the water. >> reporter: the new messaging is especially important right now. park service
