fire crews are on the scene and there's a police vehicle that sits outside the row home in olney. firefighters were called out to east sheldon street at 9:45 a.m. they were here within four minutes and placed the fire under control in 18 minutes. firefighters found and rescued two children who were trapped on the second floor of the home. par medicine i cans treated the children on the way to area hospitals. a toddler was taken to einstein with smoke inhalation. the other young child was rushed to saint christopher's. the fire commissioner said the heavy smoke made it different for firefighters to see. >> actually it was more smoke than flames. it seemed like the fire was inside the house. it wasn't -- no flames outside. >> it's always difficult to locate people inside a burning building. despite what you see on twist you can't see anything. the smoke was on floor, you literally can see nothing. it's a challenge to locate the people in the buildings. our firefighters do an incredible job everyday. >> reporter: there's no word if there were walking smoke detecters inside the home.
