anne >> reporter: the rain just picked up here along the coast of pacifica. the good news is that highway 1 is reopened this morning. we have several hills and cliffs in the area that are in dangle falling this morning as the ran up continues to fall. that's what we saw happen yesterday with this mud slide along highway 1 near rain nadel mar. mud dirt and rocks on the northbound labors and between cleaning up and shoring up the hillside it took almost 25 hours to get the lanes reopened and there aren't a lot options for getting around highway 1 unfortunately, so traffic backed up along the peninsula coast all day long. crews put a concrete barrier between the section of the hillside and the highway to try to prevent another roadblock but preventing the land from sliding is impossible. the ground is saturated and it will be more so by the end of the day so it's impossible to know when and where the next landslide might pop up. live in pacifica, anne makevoc, kpix 5. >>> crews are keeping an eye on a mud slide in guerneville. it slid down near several homes on

the city of pacifica has been preparing over the past 24 hours. men with the public works department cleaned out the storm drain that spills out to the ocean near the pier by making sure the pipe is clear of any beach sand. workers are also trying to fix a sink hole at a busy section on edge mar avenue by highway 1. a large hole estimated 14 feet wide, 15 feet deep. an eroding cliff, the apartment at 310 esplanade needs to come down. they have been working to remove much of the interior before demolition of the building itself starts as early as next week. but to reiterate how beautiful it is out here, we are out here this morning. it didn't look this way. it was foggy, cold, but here you have a nice light breeze out here. it's warm and you've got this beautiful view here of the waves. but it's expected to get much more violent in the next 24 hours starting around noon tomorrow according to high surf advisory. once you get into saturday morning, we could see those waves getting into the 25 to 30 foot range. reporting live here on the pacifica pier
