. >> paola ramos spent time with a group of farmworkers that were deployed to arizona to mobilize votersfarmworkers and who are they targeting with their message? >> so, look, they could actually be the key trusted messengers here in arizona. this weekend, jose, the united farmworkers literally deployed over a dozen farmworkers from the fields in bakers field, california, all of the way to phoenix and not just to mobilize latino voters, but to be the key messengers and to be the people who can close the closing arguments for democrats because farmworkers can humanize immigration and mass deportations better than any other politician. the thinking goes and take a look at what the farmworkers told me right here, jose. with us now, national political reporter for "the washington post," and msnbc contributor paola ramosve been kind of telling us about this shift you've been seeing. why do you think so many are surprised by it? >> look, i think we should be surprised. i think it is not surprising that latinos would want to be sort of inspired or find something in republicans, but i do think we should be surprised around the idea that so many latinas found something in trumpism. that's the question we have to ask ourselves, what does that reveal? the last person that did really well with latino voters within the republican party was someone like george w. bush, he did very well because of his pro immigrant rhetoric. because he really tried to embrace latinos. and here we are, years later, and someone like donald trump, that is promising mass depour deportations, who insulted immigrants, is poised to break a record with latino voters. what does reveal about ourselves, what does the idea that now we're shifting toward this antiimmigrant rhetoric, what should that say? >> i think the george w. bush, he go

>> joining us now is paola ramos. thank you for being here. immigration is deeply personal in a state like arizona. we're looking at the fact there is at least 260,000 undocumented immigrants that just live in the state of arizona. so that means that there is almost 150,000 u.s. citizen children that are part of mixed status families. the question that they are actively pondering right now is will we be separated if donald trump wins? what we found in arizona is that there are actively local law enforcement teams that will help donald trump carry out the mass deportation plans and here's that that looks like. this is interstate 10, which stretches from the southern border to phoenix. law enforcement refers to it as smugglers highway, a hot spot for drug and human trafficking. mark lam, a trump supporter, patrols it every week. are you specifically looking for people that you suspect could be undocumented and if so, how do you do that? >> part of it is if you're wearing camouflage clothes and carpet shoes, that's a strong indicator you crossed
