paramedic recruit class. tony worked at a variety of stations making friends, every step of the way. but most of the time, he spent at stations 18 and 34 on the avenue, probably because he liked to surf so much, and most recently he found a home at station 26. the san francisco fire department is comprised by a by verse group of men and women, one of the things that makes me most proud of our department. we are a patchwork of individuals who come together every day with the same goal of protecting lives and properties. our difference is are what makes our team stronger? on the outside, vince and tony teemed -- seemed pretty different. vince was more reserved and serious at least until you really got to know him. tony more outgoing and humorous. but both vince and tony shared an unrelenting at the massty and an unwillingness to give up on things in which they believed. they were dedicated public servants who shared a common goal and who ultimately sacrificed themselves for others. no measure of word will ever

yes, shawn is an oakland paramedic. labor dispute with the oakland fire department and city for quite a while now involving issues from alleged racism to retaliation and things like that. but this latest lawsuit that he just filed in alameda county directly deals with the shooting of oscar grant. now we want to show you video from the scene back on january 1, 2009. we were there when the paramedics arrived on scene and treating him for a gunshot wound to his back. it's important to note that sean is not one of the paramedics in this video. he was not there that morning and in fact has said he doesn't know how many paramedics responded, doesn't know how long it took to get care. he called for an investigation into the handling of that call and claims that investigation was suppressed. he also claims that he was retaliated against because he wanted that investigation. his lawyer goes further. in a youtube video posted last week claiming that more could have been done to save grant's life. >> the oscar grant case it's pret

i am a retired paramedic and i have worked on an ambulance for 20 years. i am here to speak in opposition to the dangers proposal to replace institutional police officers with private security companies that san francisco general hospital. the general deals with staffing and has a protocol to deal with lockdown situations sometimes on a daily basis. i don't know how to convey what it feels like to be in a situation with someone who is a threat to themselves or other health-care providers. perhaps you felt goose bumps when you heard about a psychotic patient who wrapped his hands around a nurse practitioner. this was unsound four. fortunately, the police were there to save the practitioners life. what happened if that offender was taken to the facility where people were less trained. the outcome would have been different. you can ask any paramedics or firefighter or police officer given a choice whether they would bring a combative or violent patient. it would be the general hospital. it is because the police have our backs. did people, they're trained, and
