thank you, chair peskin. good morning, commissioners. i'll turn to the regional portion of my report having -- chair peskin having covered the federal update. the caltrain board as we know is potentially considering a one-eighth tax for the november ballot. they've been conducting polling at caltrain to inform the member agencies, all of whom would need to act prior to august if there is a desire to move forward. as you may recall, the sales tax would fund capital and operating needs for caltrain going forward. caltrain does lack a dedicated revenue source and has long faced financial challenges with the precipitous drop in ridership and fair revenue. sb797, the authorizing measure, requires operators and boards of supervisors in each of the three counties and the caltrain board to act to put a potential measure on the ballot. so we're tracking those poll results which are just coming in i believe this week. and we will be reporting out certainly to advise commissioner walton as our representative to the calt

good afternoon, chairman peskin and supervisors. this is an attorney for the hotel coalition and numerous other individual owners. many of my clients are immigrants who have made a life for themselves in san francisco with a family business operating an sro. this is a lawful business renting rooms by the week with seasonal tourist rentals as allowed by law. the ordinance would take away their businesses without compensation. simply wrong. the worst time is inflicted on the people who the city is trying to protect, the sro occupants. they are unable to pay a month's rent let alone a security deposit. while it may be well-intentioned, resulting harm is obvious. it will be on the city itself in the inform of environmental impacts which has not been evaluated in a proper ceqa review. it's illegal for a number of additional reasons. the am oartization period is insufficient and the hearing process is vague. the building inspection commission is not empowered to hold them in the first place. they have certain powers and serving as a quasi

colleagues, today i'm joining supervisors fewer, haney and peskin in introducing the business tax reform measure that will allow for a fair recovery by providing relief to our struggling and small businesses and ensuring that they stabilize and uplift our local economy. i also want to thank supervisor mar who also is going to be sponsoring another version that we submit for signatures. just basically the same one that we're going to introduce as the legislative process. you know, even prior to the pandemic, this tax overhaul was there far balanced equitable approach. we were previously working on a joint committee to propose critical reforms to our city's [inaudible] receipt tax. and from the beginning, i stressed the need for the mayor's office and the board of supervisors, as well as critical city stakeholders such as business community, labor and nonprofit providers to be part of that conversation. i still believe that -- that to be the case. it is my hope that we can land on a unified tax mission that has consensus. but we should not be sacrificing our values and abandoning our prior

thank you, supervisor peskin. >> supervisor peskin: thank you, chair yee. >> how i really started my advocacy was through my own personal experiences with discrimination as a trans person. and when i came out as trans, you know, i experienced discrimination in the workplace. they refused to let me use the women's bathroom and fired me. there were so many barriers that other trans folks had in the workplace. and so when i finished college, i moved out to san francisco in the hopes of finding a safer community. >> and also, i want to recognize our amazing trans advisory committee who advises our office as well as the mayor, so our transadvisory community members, if they could raise their hands and you could give a little love to them.
