now we understand china's commerce minister will meet with gina raimondo and the wall street reportinge's a dinner that gina raimondo is hosting for chinese counterparts and expected to meet with representative katherine tai later this week. what can take place? we already know that the trade imbalance is pretty severe, that we are buying many more products from china than they are buying from us. would you be in favor, would you support removing the most favorite trade status from china? >> absolutely not. look, china is the second largest economy in the world only next to the united states and it's still using that title to gain the system and it is using influence in the pacific, using the belt and road infrastructure needs, look what they did to sri lanka, for example. they are using that special status to gain that system. we need to make sure that american dollars and technologies is not helping china to, you know, exercise their economic coercion. we see that. xi jinping and china's communist party is not interested in doing anything following the international rule of law. we n

maria: i mean have i joanie with gina raimondo to host a dinner for sxart in china this week on thursdayks ago, i think that white house was, floating out this story that joe biden would come up with limitations in investing, in chinese companies that he would release it during g7 or around g7 that never happened. i never saw any limitation to say invest in chinese companies where is it? >> yeah. it is it is nowhere. and a lot of lip service from this administration. you know the president, and i heard him on your program early, are clip, where he said he didn't want he wanted to -- did not want to decouple across the board, the reality is we need strategic targeted decoupling because if we don't, the american people will will he unwittingly financing china. look. this is a national security imperative we protect u.s. investors limit capital flows that harm the united states and our allies, in this -- this multidecade competition that is in front of us. maria: i don't think ray dalio larry fink see it that way they've been doubling down investing in china final word. they have, that is t

when the chinese hear commerce secretary raimondo say this is not tolerable, referring to the micronthe united states do to impose costs on china for banning micron and the reason why this is important is because that security review that beijing said it conducted on micron products, that was bogus from every indication. and so really what we have is another test of political will. it's another test that if history continues, the biden administration will fail which means the chinese will continue bad behavior. that's because we allow it to. this really is a very bad dynamic for us. maria: well, you also have china continuing to have most favored nation t status when it comes to trade. we've got the enormous deficit on trade with china and yet we don't hear any real efforts to remove the most favored trade status, do we? >> no, we don't. and here again this is not a question of, well, we have a deficit with china. we have -- the reason this is important is because we have a deficit with china because of predatory trade practices, practices that violate china's obligations to us and w
