and that was unusual for randy.he heart. the heart was starting to shut down because it was being stressed by the lungs filling up. so as far as the stroke symptoms that anyone would normally see, which is that f.a.s.t. you see the acronym for face drooping, arm weakness, speech slurred, and then of course time being the most critical issue. but we didn't experience that because he was in a coma at the time of his stroke, probably created from when he flat-lined and they resuscitated him, and they believe that's when the clot was thrown that created the stroke. so ours was the viral cardiomyopathy that started the walls to tumble down, and after that, it was then the stroke and one thing led to another. it happened quickly. >> very quickly. >> it was pretty much an overnight thing for us. >> and, you know, randy, you did come back to the stage in 2016 after your stroke, and you actually were able to sing amazing grace. you were inducted into the country music hall of fame. it's got to bring a lot of joy to so many a

randi pointed out the questions on the timeline. me is that alex murdaugh brought up this other incident involving his son paul who was killed there, a boat accident. brought that up pretty quickly and we see that on the body cam footage. it seems like an odd thing to bring up, except he's bringing it up saying, oh, i think i know why this happened, we've been getting these strange calls related to this incident. this must be why they were killed. >> absolutely. we heard that and we've seen that before, that's part of both sides' narrative. so the prosecution is saying this is the murdaughs doing what they did before and we heard testimony about the death of mallory beach. the testimony there that the murdaughs were on the scene, trying to manipulate the narrative right from the get-go. well, analogous to that now we have alex murdaugh presenting this alternative theory of what could have happened on that night right away, immediately. one of the first things he says to the responding officers. so that's how the prosecution is going

we heard him there in the highlights that randi showed. it did ramble on at times. laura, in this case there's no smoking gun. there's no murder weapon. are these questions about the time line, his addiction, financial deception, is that enough to build a strong case? >> some are double edged swords. the time line everyone is focusing on. the time at the kennels, going to his mother's house, allegedly, et cetera, remember, within that very tight time line he also had to commit these murders, to try to clean up a crime scene, dispose of weapons, bloody weapons. at a close range would have been apparent and make his way to get the gun, throw it out and go to his mother's house. that's a tight time line. not impossible. the idea he had said he was an opioid addict, he was paranoid and was concerned about that. he had to combine those two things to have all of that be executed in a very short window. finally, one thing working against the prosecution is, again, this idea that when the jury gets the jury instructions at the end of this trial wh

randi kaye is outside of the courtroom, and what will we hear?, as areva said, does the jury like him or not like him, but the state has presented these alleged financial crimes as motives and that i had a number of witnesses about this, and so that is going to play into whether the jury likes him, because he is accused of ripping off fellow lawyers and the government of nearly $9 million. so this is a big deal as to whether or not the jury will take that into consideration as they decide if they like or don't like or if they believe or don't believe alex murdaugh. they know that he lied to his clients and ripped them off at least $4 million to one family that he has admitted to. and then there are other alleged crimes. and this is going to certainly play into how they think and decide his guilt or innocence. >> and areva, certainly, the defense team tried to limit the scope of the cross-examination to just the murder charges and none of the financial crimes that randi kaye was talking about, but the judge denied that. he said that, basically, an
