the equity derivatives strategist at rbc joins us now. earnings season seems like it's off to an ok start. what are you seeing beneath the surface? >> i think the most important thing we have seen is consistently option moves, the implied moves going into earnings are blown out of the water. you can see that in terms of what happened with netflix and that's what happened last earnings season and is happening with tesla now. anna: you just referenced the stocks that surprised on the outside. is it more relevant on the downside? any divergence of stocks that disappoint that beat estimates? >> actually, i do. one thing we saw last earnings season which was very different than historical earnings season is every single tech name that didn't do well, every single one completely beat their earnings to the downside. that wasn't true on the upside. tesla is an example of where there was a beat but mostly on the downside where we see the divergence. if they go down, they really go down. i would point to facebook because it's been saying that despi
