flooding shuts down parts of highway 101 in redwood city for several hours this morning. the lanes have since reopened - but not before causing a major traffic back up and several collisions. kron four's will tran shows us what happened. the heavy rainfall in the overnight hours caused flooding and that caused accidents.this is northbound 101 through redwood city near whipple avenue and you can see caltrans on the scene. they have been here for hours trying to remove the flood. at 5 o'clock in the morning standing water on the roadway caused multiple accidents. chain reaction accidents where cars were slamming into each other. that forced chp to get cars off the roadway at woodside drive. then at around 6 in the morning they were able to open up lanes 3 4 and 5 but it was still bumper to bumper traffic for miles as far back as university avenue. the heavy rainfall for the past couple of days and weeks that the mud and water have clogged up the storm drains. they had to bring out a giant vacuum to suck all the debris out of the drains. keep in mind this is just a band aid
