the future of reston national golf course before fairfax county court. the reston association is appeal appealing last month's decision by the zoning appeals to open the golf course to development. the association wants to ensure the area remains green space. a few days ago we asked reston's planner what he thinks should be done with the area where the golf course is now. >> it's ees's going to be a golf course as far as i'm concerned but if it's no longer a golf course, it should be a park. >> simon says he can't imagine residents accepting the loss of the green space and the appeal the association noted that the decision affects other acre age in the area, as well. the property owners told us there are no current plans to develop the golf course. >>> nearly two thirds of service members reporting sexual assault say they're also victims of retaliation according to a new report and released by human rights watch today. interviewing roughly 150 service members saying they have encountered reprisals ranging from threats of vandalism to discharges and crimi

one man is dead, another injured after a home invasion in reston. this was near south lakes high school. so far the police have not made any arrests, but as chris papst reports, charges could be coming soon. chris: the police have been trying to piece together what happened today. for many of the people were here through the evening, the specifics don't really matter. all they know is somebody they loved is now dead. [weeping] chris: emotions ran high in this reston apartment complex. after a young man was shot and killed. the police say that it happened at 2:30 when a group of men, possibly as many as five, entered the apartment and gunfire erupted. one man in his early 20's was shot and killed. another man was injured possibly by a bullet. multiple shots were fired, multiple weapons recovered. >> i heard a couple of gunshots. then i heard somebody running down the stairs. chris: this woman lives across the street from where the man died. she was home when it happened. >> i do not think anybody was going to get killed. chris: this woman, who has li

grill out the odds are in your favor but a couple of showers in between potomac and rockville toward reston and west of tyson but the main event certainly is this monster here. it's a big storm. i got to tell you, down 301 will not be fun driving down 301 toward brandy wine. the red is heavy rain. probably 1 to 2" an hour. upper marlboro heavy rain with freak lightning strikes and a strong storm. we'll zoom in and we have really rain to beat the band on farm road. william bean's road and also old crane highway so 301 as well toward upper marlboro so this is a big storm. no reports of hail, no wind shear or damage but lightning and heavy downpours will cause you to slow down. this is going to drift slowly. i do mean very slowly south and east kind of in between sunderland and huntingtown say in the next 30 minutes or so. heavy rain is the main threat. so isolated storm possible tonight. otherwise, just humid and muggy. bus stop temperatures mid-60s to upper 70s. that's like summer. hot and humid again friday afternoon storms the same pattern and then the weekend humid with more storms. a bet

take a look toward reston, the clouds have really moved in. notice some skies. temperatures still at 88, your high of 92. we'll be at 85 next hourp, around 7:00 82 by around 9:00 and still warm at 11:00, temperatures still near 80. 88 also college park 91 rockville, 86 at camp springs and 88 toward manassas. speaking of manassas, one pretty strong storm toward manassas, also one toward anne arundel county. get to that in a second. the one toward warrenton, this is not hoff moving a lot, this is along 17 for the better part of the half hour, 45 minutes. very heavy rain building down toward the warrenton area. then as you move up toward the north and east up towards the manassas area, seeing a pretty good storm there, too. more shower activity down toward fredericksburg and then another little shower that's up into portions of anne arundel county, just to the west of the bay. we'll continue to watch these showers and thunderstorms as they develop. we'll continue to see a few more this evening. tomorrow still hot, more storms likely. better coverage ever the storms

a woman had stop stepped out to take her dog to reston and another woman had stepped out for a funeral, and now they say that the man arrested may be tied to a crime ring in chicago. sfwlr you can still see the fingerprint dust on dimmic's neighbor's door. he says he is not entirely surprised to learn that crime ring has set their sights here on this neighborhood. >> it is a lot of wealth. >> and people take advantage of it. >> reporter: the break-in at his neighborhood's home led to $8,000 of jewelry grabbed, but the nearby security camera grabbed a good shot of the suspect. long story short, the search warrant documents reveal that the detective identified a man staying at the sterling hotel, a man they believe is tied to a polish organized crime family in chicago. 39-year-old jan parshefski is charged with grand larceny. >> i am glad that the man is arrested and the neighborhood can feel safer. >> reporter: but police say there are other suspects to look out for. a woman here was stepping out to take her dog to the groomer, and while she returned sooner than expected and two the peo
